We need help with filters

Post by ready2sleep » Sat Apr 28, 2007 3:53 pm

Both my husband and I are pappers, and are both new at that. We just got new filters in the mail to be added, and were wondering with our machine if anyone knew where they went. I only knew of that sponge filter on the back of the machine. This filters is a white filter with a little tab on the side of it, can anyone tell me where it goes? We have no idea. They just sent them to us, obviously we have never changed these filters, just washed the sponge thing out.

The white filter goes in first, (fuzzy side out??), then the grey foam filter goes on top of it. You wash the grey one once a week, and replace the white one about every 3 months, or sooner if you need to.

The fine filter (white) does indeed go closest to the machine with the shiny side towards the machine and the fuzzy size towards the room. This is so the particles will catch in the fuzzy side on the way in. Easy to remember if you think about it this way.

The manual says to replace the white filters every 2 weeks or when they are dirty. I think 3 months is too long. Depending on how your house is and whether the windows are open..... You don't want to use the machine with a really clogged filter. Could be bad for the machine's motor.

The black/grey foam (gross filter) goes on top of the white fine filter on the room side. This is for the same reason. The grey foam filter traps larger particles, then the air goes through the white fine filter and it traps the smaller ones, then hopefully the air going into the machine is as particle free as possible. You wouldn't want the white filter on the room side or it would clog quicker and the grey filter would never have anything to do.

The grey filter gets rinsed out and dried completely. I alternate two so they can dry more than a day. At some point the foam will start to break down. Don't let them get that far or the white filter will be clogged with pieces of the grey filter defeating the purpose. I believe the manual says 6 months or so on the grey one.

Hope this helps.

Mine is a Remstar Pro M Series, which uses the same filters as the Remstar Plus M Series, and the manual says to replace the white filter every 30 days or when dirty, and to wash the gray foam filter at least every two weeks, replacing the gray foam one every six months. Of course always check the filters to make sure they are not torn, or dirty, and replace or clean before these timeframes if they are.

And as someone else said, the white one with the tab goes in first (closest to the machine) and the gray foam goes on the outside closest to the room.

Pam

All correct, just to add, the white is a pollen filter, some units don't have them installed due to poor DME providers. You should be able to get the Grey/Black filter replaced every 6 months on most insurance plans.

The white fine particle filter is optional. I don't use it. For over three years I've used only the washable dark foam filter.

Thank you everyone for your help and quick responses. I would have looked it up in the book, but it seems that neither of us receivied one with our machines? I guess I better ask them for one. They probably thought that 5 minute explanation of things when they brought the machine was good enough, LOL. Thanks again!!
