Trialling the Comfortcurve

Moby here, guesting.

I tried the comfortcurve last night. The sleep tec who gave it to me had no idea about it, advising me "to put the tip of the nose in the hole". She took correction very well though, and turned out to be one of my son's University friends. I digress, though i will point out to my perennial student son that *some* of his classmates now have paying jobs

Anyway, she gave me both the small and the medium nosepieces. I played with both last night, and the small didn't seem to work at all, whereas the medium seemed perfect. I gave it a good try, rolling around in bed and so on.

But overnight the medium kind of "blew out" and kept leaking. I even woke up for the first time since starting Cpap hyperventilating (obviously had an apnoea).

I studied the info on the makers website re the fitting, and I read all the threads about adjusting the cheek pads and straps. Tonight I will go on to try the panty liner trick, and the polident trick. The sleep clinic gave me a chinstrap to trial ..yuk, in yer dreams!!!! My son's little friend modelled it for me, it didn't look good, even on her.

I'm going to try to make myself a crescent shaped down pillow too, being an incurable goosedown addict. I'll sew a casing and recycle the down from my existing pillow.

Much better night.

Small nosepiece.
Headscarf.
Pantyliner trick.
Polygrip strips.
Tape.
New pillow arrangement.

However, still too much leakage, demonstrated by emptying the humidifier more than once (refilled at 5am) and an intermittent whistling sound (not the elbows).

The panty liner trick rocks! and much more comfortable too. I think I left it too late and was tired when I fixed it though, and couldn't be bothered to cut the liners. As a result they fitted too far near the nosepiece and i think "puckered" the nosepiece when I turned on my side.

For some reason I sleep much better with the headscarf on. I use it for ease of adjusting the straps (because of my hair) and for ease of slipping the headgear on. It seems to work above and beyond expected though, probably a psychological thing. Maybe I can incorporate a headscarf/chinstrap and so avoid the taping/polygrip.

The polygrip strips worked really well, though again I left my first attempt till I was too tired. A bit of a panic this morning as I thought my lips had blistered, but it was just the remains of the polygrip.

Used tape to reinforce at 5am when I refilled the humidifier, but it made no difference to the evaporation rate.

I thought about the pillows. I have arthritis and need good neck/shoulder support. I have two thin goosedown pillows so I layed one crosswise across the bed at neck level and crossed the other one over it so they formed a cross. Then i folded the "foot" end of the upper pillow under the lower pillow so it makes a mound for my neck. I nestled the mound into my neck and lifted the crosswise section so it fitted right into my neck and moulds to form a support. A bit of fiddling and bashing and the arrangement did very well for back and side sleeping.

Tonight I'll refine the pantyliner trick so it doesn't pucker the nose piece and will try again.

Feel good this morning in spite of the leaks.

Hope this is of interest to somebody!

Di

Moby here,

My husband came home from a morning's outing to find me still in pyjamas sitting on the bed with a headscarf on, industriously cutting up panty liners. He asked me what I was doing, I replied I was fixing my breathing machine...

I had the girls at work in fits of laughter describing my nightime attire, including the polygrip. They have decided to call me "The Gimp" ( but they had to explain what that meant )
