Help with the Ramp Button, Please

Post by Berniem » Mon Apr 02, 2007 2:27 pm

I mean I know what it does, but it ramps up to 8 (my number) in about 3 minutes. Is there a way to slow down the ramp up process?thought the ramp was to allow you enough time to fall asleep before the machine reaches full pressure.

Yep that is right about the purpose.

What machine do you have?

You may need to go into the "clinician" menu depending on type of machine and/or how it is currently set.

Try this:

Respironics REMstar M Series
To get into the clinician's setup mode in a REMstar M Series CPAP machine or a BiPAP M Series CPAP machine follow these steps:

unplug the power cord from the back of the CPAP machine
lift the LCD cover and press the two buttons closest to the back of the CPAP machine
while pressing the two buttons, plug the power cord into the CPAP machine
You'll hear two beeps and then you'll see the word setup in the lower right corner of the LCD screen. When you select setup you'll be in the clinician's mode where you can adjust every feature of the CPAP machine, including the pressure setting. Below is the list of settings you can cycle through on a REMstar Plus M Series:
CPAP Pressure (only in provider setup mode)
Altitude
Fine Pressure Adjustment (only in provider setup mode)
C-Flex Setting
Ramp Time
Ramp Start Pressure
Mask Alert
Auto Off
Patient Reminder (only in provider setup mode)

And I don't have the M Series machine, so if it's wrong I'm sorry. I got the info from this site:

Auto mode is for an M Series Auto machine. The info I printed is for all M Series machine, I think.

Mask alerk is if you remove your mask while you are asleep, the machine starts beeping.

Thanks Again,

I will work on it tonight. Seems this machine has secret things that should have been set up by the sleep lady. it's Ok though. I only want to mess with the stuff that i'm sure of. Like slowing down the ramp time

Prepare for the surprise.

I have gone through the menu and found that several menu is still hidden, eventhough I am in the clinician menu

I think they are hidden by the clinician using Encore pro software and stored in the smart card.

so in the end as long as you do not have that software, you cannot do anything.

My clinician hid AHI and Leak, I have to ask him to put it back

Then now I realized that he has hidden Summary Data and Blower Hours ! Darn!

As long as you know how to access to the clinician's Setup Menu, you can "un-hide" it (or anything else in there).
He doesn't need to "put it back"......you can.

Ok, I was able to activate the ramp button to work over 40 minutes. it starts at 4 pressure and ramps up incementaly to 8.

What time span do some of you use on the ramp up?

I'm still only able to use this CPAP thing for 3 hours a night. (I'm on my 3rd week) I know I am feeling better especially right after I take it off, but its frustrating to feel so uncomfortable with it on after a few hours.

I know I'm not giving you much detail here, but any suggestions or tricks about leaving it on all night?

Thanks,
Bernie

We don't use the RAMP, never did, we started at 14 cm,the ramp is a crutch, we started our treatment walking upright. A pressure of 4 cm is generally to low to breath, it starves a lot of people for air.

By strarting at treatment pressure you get treated sooner, and get used to the machine sooner, but you have to make up your mind you are going to be sucessful. Half of compliance with XPAP is mind over matter.

If you are on the ramp and have a apnea event, you will not be treated. I want my pressure there, before my throat closes off. Jim

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you have C-Flex on this machine (a lower pressure when you exhale). That's what really helps me. (I'm about five weeks into this).

I tried ramp at the beginning, but started it at 5.5 (going from 5.5 to eight), because I felt like I wasn't getting enough air at 4 to 5. My ramp time was set to 20 minutes but I never fell asleep within that timeframe. At that point, I didn't know how to get into the clinician mode to up the ramp time and by the time I did figure it out (help from people here!), I didn't need the ramp any more.

If you have a humidifier (I think I remember seeing that you do), is it heated? If so, you might want to tinker with the setting on that to see if it helps. You say you can only wear it for 3 hours and it's so uncomfortable. What exactly is uncomfortable--the pressure, the mask itself?

Getting a better machine, like the Remstar M Series Pro with C-flex (or the auto) would give you the easier pressure on exhaling, which might really help you. Some people around here don't use it; some do. It really is a personal preference, but it's really helped me.

Pam

I was having problems getting into the menu until I REMOVED the card and then it went into clinicians menu with no problem.
I just want to go back to sleep!
