You can go home again

Post by hayeswildrick » Mon Apr 02, 2007 7:24 am

Recap:
For my first two nights I used Swift, woke every hour with a start from the deepest level of sleep with chipmunk cheeks. Became a nervous wreck. Got new UMFF mask and slept much better.

BUT...
Leaks, leaks, leaks. I tried every tweak I could find, and still woke multiple times during the night to readjust mask. Ugh.

BUT...
I noticed that I wasn't being bothered by air in my mouth any more, even though my mouth was usually closed.

SO...
Last night I tried Swift again with my mouth taped shut. Wow! I only woke once with chipmunk cheeks, but without the heart-pounding that I had two weeks ago, then fell right back to sleep. I awakened this morning feeling refreshed. My OA was 1.4, and my leak rate was 32.

I think I've adjusted enough to sleeping with pressure to tolerate the Swift now. Hurray!

Press on!

Rick, thanks for pointing out that just because a mask may not have worked out at one point in one's treatment does necessarily mean it may not at another time. Glad you're figuring things out and are on your way to enjoying the benefits of effective treatment.
Kathy

And a troublemaker, too!

Maybe you should consider changing your name to Rick? It's a nice name, really. Since there's only one of you, it's easier for you to change than for this entire forum. Just imagine all the folks who've read this already and will forever know you as Rick . . . .

Have a great day, Jeff!

Regards,
Bill

Jeff,

Similar to me. I tried the swift at my titration study very briefly. I paniced when the air went into my nose and right out my mouth.

Got an UMFF for the study but the tech told me to take the swift home too and try it again when I was more relaxed.

I did just that a couple weeks later and just like you I loved it and haven't used FF since.

I use Johnson & Johnson waterproof tape. It's 1 1/2 inches wide. I got it at the pharmacy. What I did was put Chapstick on my lips so it won't stick to them. I tore off a piece long enough to extend about one inch past each end of my mouth, and folded a bit over on each end for easy tear off. Then, as someone here suggested, I pulled my lips into my mouth before applying the tape.

The thought of taping was really intimidating. Actually doing it was much more comfortable than I expected. It felt weird for the first five minutes or so, and then I completely forgot it was there. It came off easily in the morning too.

My cure for blow-fish cheeks

An old headband with Velcro sewed on the back of it to keep it together.

Sorry for not wearing a shirt....I took the pic in a hurry and didn't dress properly....LOL

Don't worry JeffH...
We'll raise the ransom!!! If everyone chips in and sells their old masks, we can probably get you released in a couple of weeks!
