Question for Opti users

Post by djdixie » Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:09 pm

I find myself waking up several times each night with the area just below my nose all sweaty, and with the way the Opti is made, I can't get to that area to wipe it off without unseating the nasal pillows. It's really frustrating to have to do that when I've worked so hard to get settled. Anyone else having this problem?

I also have noticed similar moisture. Seems to mainly on the nights the humidifier is set too high. With the central heating not always on now, seems humidifer needs are less. I thought moisture was just condensation from a leak.

I'm pretty sure the problem I'm having isn't caused by leaks. I think it's just the way the pillows lay on that part of my face that causes it to sweat. I've tried adjusting the straps, but that didn't seem to make any difference. I'll try lowering my humidifer tonight and see if that helps.

If you guys mean the optilife that does bothers me too. Not so much a sweaty feeling but it basically sits on my lips. Sometimes after getting the mask on and situated I realize my lips need chapstick or something and I can't get to them without moving everything. Lots of good things about the mask but that does bother me.

I had that when I first started using the mask, but for some reason, it doesn't do that anymore. I did turn my humidifier down a few weeks after getting the opti, so maybe that was it! I didn't make the connection.

I keep a few pipe cleaners laying on my night stand. They are handy to run under the mask and scratch an itch, lol. (Thats for nasal masks) The cleaners also will mop up any sweat on the lip. That is becoming less of a problem the more I use the Opti. Incidently pipe cleaners are becoming harder to find now days. I guess thats a good thing as more people are quiting smoking, or dying off!! Keep up keeping on...Jim

I didn't change the humidifier settings last night because I realized I don't know how! I was getting that confused with changing the heat setting--it's not the same thing is it??

Anyway, same problem last night, had to wipe off the area above my upper lip about 5 times. After I got up this morning I decided to change the slot that the side straps go through to see if that will make a difference. Maybe that will change the angle and keep the pillows up off my skin.

Jim, do you think qtips would work instead of pipe cleaners? And where do you find the pipe cleaners?

The last time I found pipe cleaners was at a local smoke shop in the mall here. I bought all he had and he thought that would be his last. I noticed the other day as I looked just for fun he had some in stock so I guess they are still available.

Craft stores have all kinds of fancy pipe cleaners, not the ones used in pipes. You can get lots of colors, sizes and textures.

Maybe you could use the cotton make-up removal pads. Cut in half and "stuff" in those nooks and crannies for the night...

Just a thought.

Have you tried changing the angle of the pillow once you have it on the mask? I think I've had that problem occasionally, but changing the angle of the pillows makes a difference to how much they sit on your face.
