OPUS Explanation?

Post by brackstone » Tue Mar 27, 2007 9:12 am

Hi Guys,

I was reading the article about the OPUS but I don't think I understand. Can someone explain to me the difference between the OPUS and my Swift Mirage?

Thanks!

Basicly the OPUS has a very small area in the front middle of the harness which holds the hose and mask which fits your nostrils. It is maybe two inches overall width so it is much harder to bump with the pillow and put side force on the mask. The Swift must be approaching 4 inches in overall width. The harness is a little simpler too.

The pillows are smaller than the Swift's. So, if you're using a large Swift pillow, you might find that the Opus' large pillows are too small and leak.

The Opus has softer pillows. Also it has an elbow that swivels 360 degress so you can run the hose any direction you want. Unlike the swift which has the hose running from one side or the other. Makes it much more comfortable for side sleepping, especially if you run the hose over your headboard. It is also lighter and quieter. the thinner headgear doesn't cut into your cheeks as much as the Swift.

I use the large pillows, which is what I use with all nasal pillows and have not experienced leaking. In fact with it agaisnt the pillows I can actually snuggle my nose onto it and ensure a seal. It is one of those masks that if the straps or too tight it can be less effective.

I used the Optilife for 4 months on a product trial. but love the hose management options of the Opus better. Both have similiar pillows.

360 Degrees?? But how? In the pictures I see it looks like the hose is held to the side of the guys head just like my swift.

The hose does swivel at the nosepiece, so it can go up, down, left, right, I fasten mine at the top center.

The hose does seem just a hair too long, if I add the 12" extension I use with my CL2 or Swift, it clunks on the head board, the connection to the main hose just a little (maybe 3 inches) too high.

You can attach it to the headgear or leave it free floating. It is a ball and socket joint so it has a high degree of motion avaiable. The elbow moves quite easily. I leave mine unattached and have no problems. With it over my headboard, when I turn I don't even feel it. This is literally the first mask that I can forget I have on.

From a hose management standpoint, visibility, lightness of interface and comfortt, for me there is nothing that can compare. The Swift is good but I can't sleep on one side so it was an instant reject for me.
