Arteecat and cpapetcetera.com

Post by CollegeGirl » Fri Mar 16, 2007 9:11 am

Well, I caught another one. I had never seen anyone post links to cpapetcetera.com until the last few days, and then I noticed a few of them. So I used our forums search feature and searched for posts by arteecat. Lo and behold, arteecat is a spammer. All 11 of his posts were along the same lines...

"try a fleece tubing cover pretty durable. eventually they will get through it though. cpapetcetera.com"

"check out cpapetcetera.com they appear to have a quality tubing cover and offer free shipping same day."

"check out cpapetcetera.com 14.99 with free shipping. They are also hand made. durable it looks like. At least it is still made in this country. "

"definately carry it on. There is an excellent information section about traveling with cpap on cpapetcetera.com"

I reported most of them as spam. I didn't have time to report them all, so you can probably still find a few through the search feature (use the search by author box).

In my opinion, it is REALLY bad form to spam a cpap forum run by another cpap company with the name of your own cpap company. Even if I were to ever have to buy something elsewhere because cpap.com didn't carry it (and that would be the ONLY reason I would ever buy something elsewhere, as cpap.com's price matching policy serves me beautifully), I would now never use arteecat's website, because of the insiduous spamming he just tried on this forum.

I made this post largely because I wanted people to keep an eye out for things like this, and because I want people searching for info on this website in the future to find this post and know what underhanded tactics this company uses to advertise itself. Can you tell I'm not a fan of spammers?

Even if you enjoy a site, EVERY SINGLE ONE of your posts is not going to be centered on it, providing prices for it, etc. Get real. People here may be sleep deprived, but we're not stupid.

my posts are relevant to questions asked

ask about traveling and I will point you to info relevant to it
ask about fleece tubing prices I will tell you who is the cheapest
ask about information and I will point you to it

I did not know that direct answers get a response like this

I am sorry you do not care for my info but it is in response to questions asked

I will make sure to run every post by college girl before I help anyone

thanks

Our friend artee just sent me this wonderful love note via PM:

I am an RT who also uses cpap.

I work with patients all day and I am passing on info patients are looking for.

People ask questions because they want answers.

they can go to any site they want. Why don't you point me to the traveling with cpap section at cpap.com.?? I can't find it.

Thanks for calling me a spammer because I am not.

Why don't you read my posts and relate them to the questions asked

You don't have to read my post but the people I provided the info to has been appreciative.

of all the online dealers at least cpapetcetera.com is looking to provide information to the community rather than just sell them stuff

maybe you should think twice before making a blanket statement

Artee, you're not only a spammer, you're a lousy one. Next time, if you want to get away with it, try making, say, one in ten of your posts about your website, and don't post more than once a week. Then they won't stand out, and people probably won't notice the pattern. I did read your posts, artee - every one of them. And every one of them was just a conveyance for providing that link to your website.

As far as providing information to the community, guess what? You've already found it. This forum is provided by cpap.com, and is one of the best resources out there (if not THE best) for cpap patients. If you truly want to help your patients (if indeed you are a real RT), send them here. You asked snarkily and specifically for travel information. If you click on the lightbulb called "our collective wisdom," there are links for travelling with CPAP that provide excellent information. Additionally, a search of this forum for the word "travel" brings up over 174,000 results. I'd say that's pretty hard to beat.

CPAP.com, through this forum as well as their own website, provides infinitely more information than your website ever could.

Let's make these a little more accurate, shall we?

ask about traveling and I will point you to my own website.
ask about fleece tubing prices I will tell you mine are the cheapest.
ask about information and I will point you to my own website.
ask about the price of tea in china and I will find some way to bring my website into it.

Get a clue, artee. You're busted.

I will take your concern under advisement. I am new to this forum and should be able to respond to anyone's post without upsetting you.

If there are ten posts that I feel I have advice for I will post them. I don't have help for everyone but some I do.

As an RT and therapy user I feel my experience is useful for people other than you.

Sorry for your opinnion

Hahahahaha. Artee, I'll give you credit - you're more amusing than the average spammer. Luckily for you, I have a life, so I'm done with you for now. You've made it perfectly obvious to everyone here what you really are. Have a nice day.

You go, CollegeGirl! I noticed about an hour ago that arteecat posted on another apnea forum, apneaboard.com. Did he mention the website in his response?

YES, HE DID!!! Imagine that.
