Woooo Hoooo, Best Night Yet! Finally!

Post by Slinky » Mon Feb 26, 2007 7:07 am

Hallelujah! It snowed some last night, not much. No more high winds. Decent winter temperature. AND ENOUGH HUMIDITY w/the Humidaire 3i!!!!

Despite a 2 hour nap yesteday afternoon, I slept a full 8 HOURS last night AND my AHI was ONLY 3.9, AI 0.0 and HI 3.9!!!! Who gives a rat's rear about the 0.70 leak rate! I slept GOOD, feel RESTED today and even the ole snozz and sinus aren't complaining as they have been during this below freezing weather and high winds that the Humidaire 3i just could NOT handle! By George, all is right in my world today!

I just "knew" my stats would have to be pretty good given the way I felt when I got up. But didn't expect them to be THAT good!! And another surprising thing was that I slept a full 6 hours, almost 6 1/2 hours, before I woke up to go to the bathroom!!! What a night! Here's to many more of them!

Looks like all it is gonna take is a used HC 100 humidifier for the below freezing and/or high wind, low wind chill factor weather.

Whew! Last night was a lonnnnnnng time coming! I'm a happy camper.

Good night's sleep

Post by kteague » Mon Feb 26, 2007 7:27 am

I'd turn a few cartwheels for you if I could! May getting a good night's sleep be the norm for you, and awakening to such enthusiasm and appreciation as this morning ever be present. When I think about my future, while I want a good night's sleep to become my normal expectation every time I lay down, I hope it never becomes commonplace. But I doubt any of us who have gone through this could take sleep for granted again. Congratulations on last night.
Kathy

Thanks, everyone!!! It seemed like "the spirits" were against me there at first. And then Murphy got busy.

The first 30+ days were absolute misery and I was a WITCH! Then I'd get one or two good nights (tho none so good as last night) and then Murphy's sabotage would start. Its been a LONNNNNNGGGG 4 1/2 months. But today is the first day I can truthfully say I feel better than I did before starting xPAP therapy!

Thanks, Catnapper. Murphy even enlisted the help of my cat in sabotaging my xPAP adjustment efforts.

I was making the bed when she took a swipe at the headgear of my mask causing me to drop it. Which broke the hard plastic elbow on my nasal cushion. Of course, that happened on a Saturday morning AND of course, Monday morning my DME said they didn't have any replacement - but managed to find one when I expressed my unhappiness w/that!

But what I didn't realize, thinking she had grabbed the headgear, was that she had managed to puncture the nasal cushion w/her claw. AND, of course, my DME did NOT have any extra nasal cushions for my mask and SAID they would have to order one in. And, of course, it took them TWO and a HALF weeks to get it in. Meanwhile I had to use an ill-fitting mask.

Trubble did not appear to be at all apologetic for succoming to Murphy's influence. She was a feral "ghetto cat" who was live trapped, fostered and tamed, and was SUPPOSED to be a good barn cat. Ha! SHE has decided on being an overly-affectionate HOUSE cat! She KNOWS to INSIST on attention at THE most inopportune times! Naturally.

Now I know what I bred and showed dogs instead of cats for 30 years!!!

congrats slinky.......try a test run some night and don't hook up to the cpap....see if you feel any worse than you do with the cpap. I did that saturday night and felt crappy the next day. That's when I know the cpap is making a difference.

Congrats Slinky! I have been following your progress for about the past month and 1/2 and it is encouraging to know there is hope out there. I am 72 days into this and still not making it through the night with my mask - so your story helps to keep me hanging in there!

Congrats Slinky, I've been on the therapy for about 1 month. My first night was great, but then I began waking up after about 4 hours of sleep. I've now learned how to sleep through the night, most nights. However nothing compared to that first night.

It's good to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Uh, uh, Track, "ain't" no way in h*ll I'm going a night w/o xPAP if I can help it.

Since 08 Oct I've only skipped 2 nights w/o xPAP and that was due to a raw, chapped nasal passage and ticked off sinus. I do admit to 12 nights of less than 4 hours using it tho. And I admit to sleeping w/it for 2 hours or so then sleeping w/o it for an hour or so, then putting that blasted mask back on, and off and on and .... sure made for some LONNNNNNG nights! And ruined naps.

I'm a pretty bull-headed ole broad but I have to admit those first 30 nights or so really tried my resolve!!!!

Oh yeah, Gary and Guest, there IS hope, tho at times it might seem pretty dim. It was the forum and the people here who kept me going, especially those first 30 nights!!! Doggone it, if others could do it, so could I!!
