Hi Kent.

Actually, my AHI numbers were somewhat higher using the APAP mode (with a range of perssures). In a lot of cases, the machine can't respond fast enough (raising the pressure) to an event and so the event occurs. With straight pressure, the pressure is hopefully high enough that the event doesn't occur. It may not be high enough in EVERY case, but it'll probably get a higher majority than the Auto will. I also found that the pressure changes were somewhat disturbing to my sleep.

Best wishes,

Den

Hi Kent,

My AHI is better under straight cpap, but I feel heaps better on apap, and my AHI is still acceptable (AI averages 0.1) so I'm using the apap setting.

last night I lowered my Auto:Max from 9.5cm to 9.0cm and cleared my LCD data. As a result, my 7/30 day avg. AHI went from 4.8 to 1.9. Then it showed my 90% pressure dropped from an avg. of 9.5cm to 8.5cm, and I felt better this morning. But I have a known mix of Central and Mixed apnea that kick in at about 9.5cm pressure, so you cannot use my results as any kind of a guide.

I don't use my autopap for obtaining the lowest AHI, while it helps if it displays the data, I use it for the added comfort it offers.

Using the autopap I have fewer side effects from awakenings during the night, fewer problems with aerophagia, lower noise levels, all things that seem to help me sleep better. I can use CPAP mode just fine and have many times with my Remstar Pro.

I have the auto but use it as cpap. When on auto I get a higher AHI and wake several times a night. On cpap I sleep through the night and my AHI is under 0.5. I use a pressure of 9.5, under 7 I feel like I can't get enough air, over 10 my AHI goes up. The frequent pressure changes of the auto seem to be what wakes me. Most important I FEEL better when using cpap!

Thanks for the reply's everyone....It seems like there are range of possibilities out there. Even if you use your APAP like a straight CPAP, you can still look at your data if you have the equipment.

Thanks,

Kent

True, and if you start having problems, you can always switch back to Auto and "titrate" to see if you require a different pressure.
