Two Years Down, Rest Of My Life To Go

Post by TXKajun » Thu Feb 15, 2007 10:40 am

Holy cow! Today is my 2nd anniversary as a hosehead!!! Who'd-a-thunk?? LOLOL

I don't know exactly what to say. I haven't lost weight, started exercising, noticed large changes in blood pressure, noticed any effect on my Type II diabetes or cholesterol/triglyceride levels, haven't started leaping tall buildings in a single bound or found that I'm now faster than a speeding bullet. I've been compliant pretty much since night 1, but I still have the rare rough night where my APAP and mask fight me. I still have a tendency to get sleepy at work, but only when things are really boring or absolutely nothing is going on.

What I have noticed is that my AHI is now consistently under 2.0, with AI usually at 0.0 and HI often under 1.0. I usually get to bed about 8:30 PM and am up at 5:15 AM. I read until usually about 9PM and then put on mask, turn off light and get to sleep in about 4-8 minutes. I have found over the last 2 years that after my initial quick, noticeable improvement that things pretty much settled down and improved very slowly. I hit the slump like most folks, got through it and just kept on PAPing.

I'm now able to play with my son after work and on the weekends, Sweetie has been back in bed with me for a LOOOOOONGGG time now and my son's buddies that spend the night no longer ask him what that "roaring" sound is after I go to bed. I don't have to complain to Sweetie on Monday morning "I don't understand. I slept for 26 hours this past weekend and I'm more tired now than on Friday afternoon." When work is interesting and I have plenty to do, I don't nod off two or three times a day anymore. I've been contemplating resuming workouts, which between 2 and 5 years ago was something totally impossible to contemplate.

About the only way I can describe how things are now is "Normal".....with a capital N! I had only remembered this feeling when I first started on XPAP and so badly wanted it back.....and I'm there.

That's about it, ya'll. Hang in there all you new folks! It takes a while, a bunch of tweaking and a lot of frustration to get to where I'm at now, but it is ALL worth it. And for all the folks that have been around for the last 2 years of my journey, thank you one and all for your help, encouragement and the wealth of info you share here. And johnny, thank you SO MUCH for this forum and cpap.com! You're the best!

Kajun

Congrats on your milestone! It's especially encouraging to the newbies on here to read of the long term successes.

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.

Sounds familiar. LOL. I've been contemplating that very thing myself. Yep, been contemplating it for many months now. The closest I've gotten though is walking the dog for an hour each day, but haven't even done that for a month now on account of constant snow-cover and temperatures bouncing below zero for much of that time.

Sounds like what we need is motivation.

Bill
