Septoplasty done
Recovery
I had the procedure as well, though it sounds like you're having a bit rougher time of it than I did. In addition to the nasal spray, my ENT had me doing a saline flush (2 cups Distilled water, salt, and a baby suction bulb) several times a day for 2 weeks.
All I can say is it was worth it. I didn't know I had a breathing problem. Now, I breathe so much better, smell better, taste better, and I can use a nasal pillow system, which is much better for me anyway) than a FF.
Hope you are pain free soon.

Day two was more congestion than the first.
Tried to sleep with my new Hybrid and mostly just laid there listening to leaks. Changed from medium to large cup and put the rubber bands around the pillows to tilt them more forward and that helped some. Got it to seal good once during the night.
I think most of the blood is gone out of my nose. Now I just whistle when I breath (I guess it's the splints).
At least I'm not as frustrated as I was in that I can see daylight at the end of the tunnel.
Hopefully tonight I can go back to my trusty Adams nasal pillows and get some sleep.
Has it been worth it so far? You bet.

Hey JeffH,
I'm glad that it seems to be going well for you. And relieved that it seems to be helping. Hang in there and heal well. Good luck.
Thanks for keeping us posted. Given that I'll be doing this septoplasty myself at the end of April, I'm thrilled to hear your experiences. Keep them coming.

Day three.
Didn't sleep well at all. In fact my biggest complaint about this whole process is the inability to sleep. They put splints in your nose and it makes it hard to breath. They come out Friday at 1:00pm and I'm REALLY looking forward to that moment in time.
Pain is pretty minimal. Soreness is a little above that. For some reason my calves hurt like hell. I guess it's from the knock out dope.
After about noon on the second day the blood drainage stopped. I stopped taking any pain meds after the second day. (They were making me nuts!). JackR will understand.
Did manage to get about 5 hours sleep with my Hybrid. I cut the chin cup off and took the nasal strap off my Adams and pulled the nasal pillows in the Hybrid in just the least little bit and it helped seal the nasal pillows to the nares. It is pretty tight and when I woke up at 4:00 my nose was a little sore, so I just went ahead and got up.

Sounds like constant improvement...always a good thing!!
A friend said that once the splints are out it really is great. So you have that to look foward to.

I feel your pain (literally)
Just had my septoplasty done last Thursday (a day before you). Am currently up at 3 am because I'm drowning in all the congestion. I can't wait to get the splints out - I have only been able to get minimal air through my nostrils, and CPAP is out per my MDs direction.
I get my splints out Wednesday - tomorrow will be a looong day.....
Wishing us both a speedy recovery!

Snoredog,
I guess we're all different but the splints I had taken out on 2/5 were only about 1 inch long, and were hollow. But yes, you are correct that after the splints come out there is GREAT RELIEF !!!!
My nose continues to drain less and less each day, and I'm thankful that I had it done.
Jeff, Friday is coming soon !
Cheers all,

Hi Guys,
I continue to be better and better each day (that is my nose).
Thanks for all your well wishes.
One observation that I've neglected to offer I was reminded of this morning!
At least for me, my nose is very sensitive to cold. Outside using the snow blower to clear the 12 inches we got over night the nose really hurt. I got the ol' nose covered up with a ski mask and a loose scarf and that worked fine. Just a word of precaution--- watch the cold!
Cheers and stay warm!

Glad to hear you are at least up to shoveling snow. Any improvement is good news in my books.dataq1 wrote:Hi Guys,

It's way colder than normal here, but without the snow. Haven't been out yet, but going out to dinner tonight for V day and will get a taste of it then. Only 47 hours until the splints come out! Yeaaaa!
