Airsense 10 and F40 mask - blow out

Post by Buckeroo54 » Sun Nov 16, 2025 3:18 pm

Transitioning to a F40 mask with a Airsense 10. Experiencing blow-out leak after nominal start. Haven’t looked at my Oscar data yet. No amount of strap tensioning helps. I start out with a nice “just right” and mask starts leaking and then I tighten to remedy leak, only to have mask leak again, rinse and repeat. I end up with no adjustment left and the mask mashing my face and leaking. My pressures are 9.5 - 17.5, EPR - 2, no ramp.
I have been using a resmed N20 pillow with chin strap and previously a Phillips pillow/chin strap w/dreamstation. Pretty good results for me (>5 ahi) although spouse feedback is “you are puffing through your mouth”
Unfortunately or fortunately for my spouse she’s always had >1 ahi and normally and very quiet, which is her super power I guess (airsense11 with full face). I’ve tried just about every resmed/phillips full face masks, always no joy.
Thanks!

Have you watched some YouTube videos on how to size and adjust the models you try?

I (after the same frustration as you) found that one has to get ones nose down into the nose cradle to the point that when it inflates it comes up over the end of the nose. If one just puts ones nose in the cradle and straps up, it will as you say "blow out" and leak. I think that getting it to inflate up and over the end of the nose anchors the mask and does not let it move as freely. I have a full beard and it will leak through the beard, but no large leaks. I use one for my almost daily naps. My problem with it and all the Resmed silicone cradle masks is the way the breathing holes are arranged. They tear my septum up if I try to wear them over night. That little arrangement between and below the holes.
I have found one exception. The AirTouch F30i Clear Full Face CPAP Mask
https://www.cpap.com/products/resmed-ai ... gKg6vD_BwE. It has a silicone/fabric cushion.
It is the most comfortable full face mask I have ever used(by far). Pricey, but worth every penny. For me,YMMV. :D
