Yet Another Attempt

Post by daBee » Thu Nov 06, 2025 3:27 pm

Hi folks. I'm trying this silly machine once again and I need your help.

I've owned this Resmed Airsense 10 for years and it has never been able to tackle my issues. I'm measured severe sleep apnea. I've been for 4 tests including multiple latency. I'm diagnosed with narcolepsy type 2. This cpap device, which I use a N30i nasal mask with, can sometimes get me a couple hours worth of sleep. Then I get claustrophobic.

I have been told to raise it to 8-16 for pressure, which I do. I use distilled water, and the fit is fine. It is not uncomfortable. I just get claustrophobic and I take the thing off, which is obviously not the way it should be working.

What can I do? I can't run through all the mask alternatives. I've turned off the ramping because that's not the problem. I have the variable pressure for relief turned on. Other than that I have no control and I can only think it's the mask. Am I wrong?

Should I get a new mask? This is a Nasal Cradle, and the AirFit P30i are Nasal Pillows. ChatGPT says there is less claustrophobia with those latter P30i versions. Is this what I should be trying? Can anybody provide some insight? Resmed won't answer my questions and want to refer me to the people that I simply don't trust with my healthcare. They are a gas company here in Canada.

Any insight appreciated. Cheers

I suggest that you wear the mask when not sleeping. wear it earlier in the evening while doing other things. reading or watching TV or doing household chores. of course, I mean without connecting it to the machine.

this may help you grow accustomed to having the mask on. it seems to me that your brain is rejecting the mask. it's saying "help! there's an alien on my face. GET IT OFF!!" so let your brain get used to it and hopefully, this will be the solution.

good luck!

Do you think the overhead hose connection makes the claustrophobia worse? If so, you could try the P30 or N30.

You could ask your doctor about taking a small dose of clonazepam (sedative) until you get through an adjustment phase.

Do you mind getting a free account at SleepHq.com, uploading your SD card, and then posting the link in this thread?

Hi there. Thanks for the notes.

I've owned this machine for 7 years and this mask for about 3 or 5 years now. The unit isn't uncomfortable. I just get claustrophobic from breathing rate. None of this has to do with the headset. But I'm well past the adjustment phase, by a couple of years.

I'm not posting my stats. The last time I used it, it registered zero episodes, yet I still had to take it off, as it woke me up and I had to hang it up for the night. None of this is new to me. I just can't seem to keep this thing on for a full night.

Anyway I bought a P30i mask earlier on and should have it by tomorrow.

Cheers

Well, these nasal pillows are much worse than the nasal mask. There is restricted exhale. I can't even use these. There is no graph for a 3 minute attempt.

True.
Just in case there's a misunderstanding, I'll add that "stats" and "graphs" are not the same. It's the graphs we need to see in order to have any chance of understanding what's going on.

And why is that? I've owned it for years and it's done very little for me.

It would help a lot to understand more about what makes you take the mask off. You say the mask isn't really the problem; instead "I just get claustrophobic from breathing rate." Can you say more about what the feeling you get is like? For example, do you wake up and start breathing faster and then feel a bit panicked? Or ... ?

And it truly would be helpful to see some graphs, because that might allow people here to identify something that happens right before those "claustrophobic" feelings. Ideally you could sign up for SleepHQ so we can zoom on on the key moments.

You have some serious sleep issues, and it'd be great if we could help you. For that, we could use a little more information from you.

daBee started a new thread at - https://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Threa ... rent-masks

She's being told to get a bilevel, and they are excited about her CAs. I'm not sure, but she may have been awake during those "CAs". Maybe some member here wants to look at the one OSCAR chart she posted over there.

I note she's using straight CPAP with EPR 3.

daBee, if you're still reading this, you would be better off letting the people here advise you. I have a long experience with both forums and know you get better help here.
