OSCAR and Snapdragon X processor

Post by BuzzKillington » Sat Aug 23, 2025 10:30 pm

I need to buy a new computer to update to Windows 11. Windows for the Snapdragon X ARM processor has an X86 emulator that is supposed to run most X86 software, but I know most emulators tend to be hit or miss. Does anybody know if OSCAR runs well on the Snapdragon X processor with that emulator, or should I stick with X86 processor architecture? I'm presuming OSCAR does not have an ARM version (I could be wrong about that).

Depending on what software you use besides OASCAR, you may be able to save a few bucks by installing Linux on your current computer.
There are many flavors of Linux available, including a few that look like Window. The software is a free download and usually includes an office program Libre Office which many people can't tell the difference from MS Office.
Linux generally runs faster and smoother on old hardware than Windows.

That's a good point. OSCAR is available for Linux, and I have thought about turning my current computer into a Linux machine after I buy the new one. But, itvwould be nice to have OSCAR available on my main computer so I don't have to pull out the old one just for that.

What do you do on your main computer that requires Windows?

Besides OSCAR (which can run on other things besides Windows), I use tax preparation software and Microsoft Office. I sometimes use a sound editing program called Audacity. But, I don't use it that often any more. Most of my time is spent on a tablet or phone.

Turbo Tax is the main program remaining that keeps me tied to Windows.
I replaced MS Office with Libre Office decades ago.

Audacity is out there for Linux. Turbotax I do all online. Open Office is a thing. My spare PC is a Dell Vostro laptop that's over 15 years old. It's been running Linux Mint for more than 5 years, probably more like 6 or 7. It was the only Linux build I could make work but it worked. Mint was super simple to install and to use. You can get as little into it or as deep as you want to, Linux user or expert it's your choice. My Vostro hasn't been rebooted in a couple of years now. It sleeps alot but it's ready to go when I am. Mint may well be my replacement for this aging non-Windows-11-compatible workhorse I use today.

Why not use a free account at web-based SleepHQ? It's so easy and especially easy to share a link for others to see. They can easily zoom in.
