What does an AHI of .1 mean? I used to be sky high.

Post by MadameM1 » Sat Aug 02, 2025 3:46 am

My specialist here in France ordered the ResMed chin strap for me since my mouth has always dropped open when asleep my whole life. My previous CPAP numbers had been between 5-10 for over ten years, but since I got the strap six months ago, the highest it has reached is .3. Some nights are 0. So I don't understand what .1 or .3 means. Also, the pressure was dropping by .1 every few weeks. Can anyone help?

Your numbers are excellent, what help could anyone offer for great numbers? Nothing to fix here.

Thank you Conrad. I didn't know if .1 could mean AHI 1 in the ResMed world or if it truly was 1/10, after having suffered with full-face masks, open mouth, bloating and numbers well over 5 for years before I got this chin strap. I am going to request a retest with the chin strap.

As I said, those are great numbers! I wish that mine were this good!!!

The BIG question is, how are you feeling?

I feel great. From the first night last December when I got the chin strap, it was a world of difference. My mouth, throat, nasal passages are never dry though I live in a Mediterranean climate. In fact, I'm putting away the humidifier and installing the end piece.

I will come back to share the results of the at-home sleep test with only a chin strap, but it could take some time as we're in the middle of a vacation period. I've looked on US and French websites and haven't seen my experience duplicated. I wish everyone well getting used to the treatment and wish you success.

What does an AHI of .1 mean?
It's the average apneas plus hypopneas per hour over the night.

Examples:

Used the machine 10 hours, machine recorded one event; 1/10 = .1 AHI

Used the machine 7 hours, machine recorded 7 events; 7/7 = 1.0 AHI

As low as your AHI is, the recorded events might be transition events or awake events - nothing to be concerned about.

What's your leak level?

Wrong!

AHI is not a measure of Time in Apnea. This statistic can be found in OSCAR or SleepHQ. In the OP's case, it's going to be much less than 60 seconds.
