This is from last night with my new resmed activa mask. Is the leak normal?

TIA

Hi Carlos,

The leak rate doesn't look bad. As long as the leaks are below 0.4 (with resmed machines) the machine can compensate for them. You had a few places where the leak spiked over 0.4, but all in all your leak rate looks all right to me. I'm no doctor, DME, RT, or expert, though!!

Carlos,

It does look like the mask is shifting in the night & causing spurious leaks. You may be able to tighten it just a little.

You should be able to get the leak rate down dead flat but it does then relate to how comfortable the mask is fitting on your face.

Good luck

I'll tighten the ms tonight and let you know the result tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi Carlos,

The real check is your figures which are excellent, you had 3 apnoeas and low hypopneas, and how you feel. How do you feel today? I'm betting you feel pretty good with a bottom chart like that one. The leaks are peaking a little but like RG said your machine is handling it OK. You can see from the top graph how it is working to keep your airway open.

Carlos, there's no way to tell from the leak rate if the leaks are from mask or from air leaking out your mouth while you sleep wearing a nasal mask. Or from a leaky hose connection, etc. You'll have to be your own detective to determine where leaks come from. It's usually mask or mouth.

The Activa mask should be worn with straps fairly loose. If you tighten an Activa down much, the bellows won't be able to create the good seal that is so unique to that mask.

Carlos,

RestedGal has a good point re the potential for mouth leaks.

The Activa is pretty good at sealing so yes try a little tighter but if that doesn't do anything check how your hose comes over the bed (perhaps pulling the mask), but also are you aware of mouth leaks - believe me they are a great source of instant arousal from sleep

I'm going to rock the boat.

With the Activa, try a little looser too. I know it seems strange, but just try it for 5 minutes laying down and see.
