Mask for Small Head

Post by Gidgemo » Thu Mar 20, 2025 1:40 pm

My wife started on Cpap about a year ago and hasn't quite found the right mask yet. Her therapy was working great with a nasal mask but she tends to open her mouth and the air coming out is loud and disturbs moi. It doesnt show up as leaks and her numbers are great. Tried a few full faces but she has a really small head and even the smalls start to slip under her chin at night.

Does anyone know of a full face (over or under nose) that comes in extra small or runs small?

Tried a few full faces
It would help if we knew already which full face masks she has tried and failed with. No sense in us telling you about something that works great for us but if it won't fit her then it is useless.

Has she looked at (or tried) the ResMed AirFit F40 full face mask?

It comes with a choice in headgear size as well as cushion/pillow sizes.

I personally have a very small head but no experience with this F40 as it is fairly new to the market.
I have thought that I might try it for grins but don't need or want to try it bad enough to spend the money for it since I don't really like full face masks but this one looks interesting.

Side note.....the full face masks she tried....what was too big for her? The headgear? The cushions/pillows? Or both?

The full faces she tried so far is the old Quattro, F&P Amara, and now the F20 full face. She isnt having a headgear issue. The problem is the bottom of the mask isnt fitting in that valley between the lower lip and chin where it probably should, but rather way lower on her chin, and least bit of mouth movement makes its ride down the chin and leak.

Ahhhh...gottcha now. Her face is too small for those old traditional full face masks and they don't make a smaller version of those older masks. I can understand because I would probably have the same trouble with my face and trying to use those older masks.

Have her look at the F40 and the F30 and/or maybe F30i. They are full face masks but of the hybrid sort of type but much improved over the hybrids I had available 15 years ago. These newer models run circles around the old Quattro or those types.

She will have more chance of finding a full face mask that fits her small facial structure with one of these hybrid types.
Some people may tell you to look at a pediatric mask but I don't think any brands that make pediatric size masks offer any full face cpap masks for kids. All I have ever seen has been pediatric nasal masks of some sort.
