Heading to the DME today

Post by ejdischer » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:30 am

I can't take the Hybrid anymore. Nose is killing me. And now the nasal pillows keep popping out. The last 2 nights have been my worst on CPAP in the month and a half I've been on it. I want to get another FF mask because the Opus(coming Monday) will probably not be good when I get a bad cold. I'm thinking FP 431, or the Mirage, or maybe I'll try to get the Soyala, or maybe the FP 432. Eh, who knows. Maybe they'll just give me all 4 as part of a secret contest I won that I'm unaware of. ARGH.

I think the FF mask Somnotech (makers of the Soyala nasal mask) is coming out with is called the Yara? I'd probably wait and try that one. But that's just me... 'cuz I've not really liked any FF mask I've used so far. We do need one in the stash for the occasional too-congested-cold though. I agree... "ARGH."

Someone who had listened to the resmed earnings report said they announced a new FF mask in development. Dunno what or when it will be.

Someone else wrote this in a recent email. I hope they're right!

I believe the truly evil will wake up in hell strapped into full face masks.

Eric,

I'd be very surprised if your DME has a Soyala full face. I think I remember you saying a couple of weeks ago that they hadn't even heard of the OptiLife, and Respironics is a main stream manufacturer here. Somnotech products are really just starting to penetrate the market in North America.

Anyway for what it's worth, the 431 was the only FF I had any success with at all and even at that it was just tolerable. Good Luck with your search.

I would love to continue with the Hybrid but it's getting unbearable. Between the leaks at the two ends of the swivel, the nasal pillows popping out, and the nasal pain, I'm done with it. Hopefully they'll have a few masks I can take a look at. I doubt they'll have any Somnotech stuff. Maybe I could beg them to order it for me. Well, hopefully they'll at least have some filters as opposed to last time when they needed to be ordered and then I never got a call.

Wow, the DME actually went pretty well. Tried on an Mirage FF, FP 431, and a CL2 FF. The 431 fit the best. Unfortunately they can't get the Soyala, but CPAP.com told me today that they should be getting it shortly. The DME(Apria) is calling me next week to come in and pick up an Opus. F&P is coming next week to demo one for them. Apparently F&P will let me take one home for free as long as I agree to provide feedback. So now I'll probably just take home the Opus and buy a Soyala FF out of pocket.

Dish,

That's great you were able to try on so many masks. When I went, it was "you can look, but not try" for health reasons. UGH. Good luck with the new mask!

Well, I was pretty picky. I brought some baby wipes to disinfect. I was thinking that if they were letting me try them on, they were letting others as well. They were reluctant to let me try them with pressure, but I talked them into it. The sleep tech was blown away when I told him I wanted to try the M-Series on a pressure of 14 to check the seal. "How do you know how to change the pressure?" "UMMMM, I read the manual(aka message board)." Thank God, because the Mirage FF felt great, but when I had the pressure jacked up it leaked like Ron Hextall circa 1995.

No, they like confusing us. Here in the states they're calling it the Soyala Full Face Mask.

I'm pretty sure it's called the Yara in Germany though.
