Web site problem?

Post by Miss Emerita » Mon Oct 07, 2024 10:53 am

Yesterday the site was slow to load, and my first effort to visit the site this morning resulted in an error message.

I have had the slow to load problem yesterday and today but as of yet no error messages.

Just watch things because in the past the "really slow to load" problem usually is the beginning of something that we don't like.
I thought this yesterday when I started having the slowness problem. Actually what I thought was "WTF" is going on now?

If enough people are experiencing slow speeds or error messages we can forward this thread to Carolyn.

In addition to being slow, the "Quick links" -> "Your posts" menu entry shows nothing but the error message: "Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. The server has high load. Please try again later." I barely use this stie, so I don't know hat else might be wrong.

I've been seeing the "you cannot search...server has high load" for a few days ago (I usually search for unread posts to see what's new). Seems like something might be hammering the servers (DDOS?)

Also, it keeps deleting the authentication cookie (so I have to login each time). This in addition to the obvious deterioration of the website responsiveness.

Growing pains. Needed to add a new index to the growing database. Traffic should return to normal.

Just now it took 16 seconds for a post to get posted. That's pretty long.

Everything I do is slow.
Approving any new account post takes me over a minute from start to finish.
Other stuff might be 30 seconds and 15 seconds is "fast" for me right now.
Still can't do any searches without getting the "high load, try again later" message.

Heard from Carolyn.....she has notified IT.
Don't expect a quick fix. They have to duplicate the problem and then figure out best way to fix first.

One problem resolved reveals another. Made a couple more changes and things appear to be moving in the right direction. Will continue to monitor and adjust as needed.

this is prolly WAY too soon to be the needed fix, but things are posting and reloading much faster for me, at least.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Some things load fairly quickly but other things not so quick.
I just deleted a duplicate post and it took 45 seconds where as normally it only takes a couple of seconds...maybe.

Everything appears to be back to normal; at least to me, and I don't do a whole lot here.

well let's hope it clears up for everyone, but particularly for you.

kind of important to have the moderator able to do housekeeping and such!
