Airsense 11 Reboot randomly

Post by Recoil » Mon Jul 22, 2024 8:54 am

Hello everyone,

Two issues, this morning my Airsense 11 restarted automatically while I was sleeping. I can't tell if it was a power surge or anything power related but can that happen?

Also, over the past three months I have been working with a nutritionist as well as exercise and have lost 30 pounds. For the past couple of weeks my leak rates have been higher than normal. I recently replaced the tubing, humidifier chamber and got a size smaller head gear (Dreamware) and my leaks are still high. My current pressure is a steady 18 and hasn't been adjusted since I first started. I tape my mouth and I think air is still leaking out my mouth in the middle of the night, even taped I will wake up and feel air leaking from the corner of my mouth. Is there any recommendations? I sent a message to my Dr. about possibly lowering the pressure but I have not heard back. My humidifier setting is set on auto and my tank is always bone dry in the morning. Do you think I should tone down the amount of the humidifier?

You indicated in a previous post that you were having trouble understanding OSCAR. How about getting a free account at SleepHq.com, uploading your data, and posting the link in this thread? People trying to help you at this point are operating in the dark.

+1 on this... flying in the dark here. An Oscar picture or (better) a SleepHQ link would help.

18cm is heroic pressure... I tape my mouth and must use a full-face mask as well since I've gone to 21/17 PS4 bi-level... the tape just won't hold that pressure especially when your cheeks distend, I was using three pieces of tape, two vertically and one across. Are you using CRST, the good stuff? Try my three-piece method... two pieces vertically across the mouth corners (get it down in there, don't bridge any gaps), then connect them with one across. Overlap your lips for best seal... I tuck my lower lip in and tape my upper lip over it.

You can test your tape job by letting your cheeks relax and see how the mask pressure is held in... in the morning you can do the same to see if you leaked during the night. I'm guessing a full-face mask would fix your problem.

Yes.

How do you know it restarted?

Post an OSCAR graph. Often the abruptness of the graph, how long it there was no data presented, and the pressure levels at restart we can tell if the "restart" was power related?

Having said that, any other devices show a sign of restart?

Change outlets. Change power bar. Use a UPS/EPS. Reseat power cable into power brick, outlet, back of machine.

How do I post the link from sleephq?
a) Start a free account.
b) Upload your SD card data to SHQ. See your Dashboard, last night's data.
c) Select the three dots at top right... choose Share Page.
d) Select the floppy icon in the popup dialog. Now the link is in your Clipboard.
e) Reply here and paste the link in your reply.

Here's my last night: https://sleephq.com/public/89ff1ac0-dda ... e1c14b5c7f

For the machine restart thing I recommend two things:
a) Carefully check all electrical connections... brick to wall, brick to machine etc.
b) Turn off any Auto Start/Stop features... just use the button
c) Get a computer UPS and run your machine through it.

APC makes good boxes, when the batteries eventually die you can replace them cheaply. I have a big one, costs about 180USD, can run the machine for at least two hours, turn off the beep warning and sleep through power outages. A small one is about 80USD and will get you through a 15min power outage.

Thanks!, I posted the link above. And I was wrong, I have the Airsense 10. And just an update my dr lowered my pressure to 16 for 30 days and will recheck my results but I got to work on my leaks.

Yes, it is.

There is a gap in the pressure line for 5 minutes starting at 5:15. If you have checked all the electrical connections, I would just watch for it to happen again. I don't worry about one-offs.

Also, I would change the machine mode to APAP and set the minimum pressure to 14 and the max to 18. Post another chart after you do this. I would like to see whether your current pressure is set too high. This is hard to see when the machine is set at a single pressure.

He's guessing. He's "practicing" medicine. Typically, doctors know little about optimizing CPAP machine settings.

As far as the leaks, they are not bad. But I would work on them. Find your exact mask model on YouTube and watch some videos about fitting and adjusting.

Please stick to this one thread as you make additional posts.

There are actually two restarts.

One at 2:24, a second at 5:22. Were any of them you waking up, then restarting the machine?

The one at 2:24 is very difficult to see because it's only a minute and your on fixed pressure. This is exactly why I suggest people use a small ramp period at slightly lower pressure. For you say 17.8. The difference in pressure between 17.8 and 18 is not consequential, but should there ever be a power cycle or restart, it will be obvious in the graph.

OK... first thing, you shared your entire account instead of the problem night... you may not have meant to do this. The button says 'Share account'... this is a new feature, meant for you to share everything, like with your doctor or a consultant. You might want to un-share this, see Share Links at the left (we can't see this from our share) and expire the link.... or not, your choice, it's anonymous, and we only get the last 30 days, no harm done, just be aware. To share a night use the three dots instead of the button.

If you select the little blue Session Times button you can see three sessions... the one you're talking about was at 02:23am, as Dog Slobber noted. This was probably your local power company messing with you... computer UPS for the win here. Looks like another one on Saturday... and other ones going back. This is an ongoing problem? Or was Sunday the only one?

You do have very high pressure... and EPR 3 is doing what it can to help... but really at this treatment level you'd be better off with a bi-level ('biPAP') machine like the Aircurve 10 set at 15cm with PS3 or so... your machine can only go to 20cm anyway. The therapy from an Aircurve is just superior, especially at these pressures. I understand your doctor lowered your pressure... we'll see how that goes. An Airsense at 18cm EPR 3 is really wanting to be an Aircurve.

You do have mouth leaking... the graphs show this. At these pressures it's very hard to combat without a full-face (FF) mask... a lot is being asked of the mouth tape. With FF the tape job only has to hold your mouth closed, it doesn't have to hold 18cm of pressure. Pillows masks have a built-in restriction that's unavoidable, it's just the nature of pushing through narrower passages... so FF might allow the pressure to be lowered while achieving the same therapy. Your events are fine... your sleep is being disturbed by the leaking... this blows through your water too, as you've noticed.

As a younger person I was able to get away with lower pressures and a nasal mask... as I got older and fatter I had to up the pressures, to the point where full-face and bi-level was needed. Really, at this level a lab titration is the gold standard... not cheap, but something to be said for having someone watch you sleep and adjust pressures... your choice. I paid 2500USD for a lab titration, both CPAP and bi-level; it found I really needed to be on bi-level at 21/17. Since my (PPO) deductible was met I got my doctor to prescribe a new Aircurve 10 machine and I'm getting it for only about 400USD all told. Your insurance will vary from this... pay attention to how long the 'rent to buy' period is (a frickin' scam) and when your deductible year ends (I'm going to have to pay a couple of full-price payments).

Thanks to everyone! Would you say overall that the therapy is working considering a sleep study in October 2023 had my AHI at 58? I know I have some room for improvement but from what you see is my overall therapy looking good?

Also, I did have an in lab titration study done in January 2024 and that is where they gave me the 18 pressure. Last night was my first night at 16 pressure. Here is the link to last night https://sleephq.com/public/e788aad7-058 ... 974ec2c246

Thank you for all your guidance. I have both the Dreamware Nasal Pillows and the Full Face mask. I didn't think of trying to use the mouth tape with the full face mask. I will try that tonight. I doubt I met my deductibles this year since my insurance just gave me the Airsense 10 in February and I haven't finished "Paying it off". Also, I'm not sure my Dr. will even write a script for the Aircurve if she thinks I'm getting adequate therapy with what I have.

How do I set this mode to APAP? Do I have to have ask my Dr. to make this change in the system? So sorry, I'm new to all of this and am traveling at the moment. I appreciate your time!

All the regulars here take care of all their own settings. There are videos on YouTube that explain how to get into the menus and make changes. Here are some - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... irsense+11

Since you've now had a good night at a pressure of 16.0, I would change your minimum pressure to 13.0 and maximum to 16.0. Most prefer to put the maximum at 20.0. The machine will not take the pressure higher than it senses you need.

Changes I've made so far:
-Turned off the "Auto-start/stop" setting.
-Set Ramp time to 5 mins at settings 15.8 pressure
-Ordered APC UPS Backup (arriving today) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDC236Q?ps ... ct_details

I haven't switched to APAP mode yet because I wanted to see how I did with the Dreamware Full Face Mask instead of the nasal pillows. I used it for the first time last night (without mouth tape). Here are the results for last night with the full face mask and setting at 16 steady pressure. I noticed there were more CA events than normal but I know those can't be prevented. Sometimes I have these sometimes I don't. And the break in the line that you see was a bathroom break :D

If at all possible, please let me know your thoughts regarding my last night results. https://sleephq.com/public/0448a7a9-6e7 ... 54c0df6797
