Help- still snoring!

Post by Offerocker » Mon Feb 05, 2007 7:03 pm

Admittedly (up front), I can be stubborn, but ...

my husband just informed me that I still snore occasionally!

I tape my mouth (down the middle). Am I going to need to do it horizontally instead? He's said this has happened before (without telling me right away, so I'm not sure of the date or mask used.

Last night I used the ComfortLite2 Simple Cushion, and it was still on when I awakened.

Until I can get some numbers out, does anyone have any clues as to WHY this is happening?

I have: Respironics APAP (7-13, usually reads 11) w/C-flex, HC-150 set on 1. No ramp, no rainout. No dreams remembered.

I appreciate any insight into this! I sure didn't expect this would happen - seems that 'something' isn't working as it 'should'.

Thanks in advance! Will post last night's numbers tomorrow.

Rocker.....

I'm still snoring too......but, I don't think there is any danger. Best as I can tell, I have a pretty active post nasal drip......and I think that's what is causing the snore.

The main thing is.....I have very few apneas during the night.....and I'm not waking up with my heart pounding....with systolic pressure over 200!

If you are using Encore Pro and Encore Pro Analyzer, you should be able to see at what pressures the snores are prevalent.....then, you might do a little pressure "tweak" to see if you can gently head them off.

The key to knowing what is going on with your treatment is.....consistent use of good software reports....every day. You could, of course increase your pressures to the point where you'd have no snores......but, then, you might get a flock of "centrals"....and be worse off than you are now. The key to all of this is "cautious moderation".......and "balance".

Gerald is correct, snoring is a symptom, I have a AHI of .62 and still have snore rates of 7 to 18. As long as the snoring isn't causing unrest in your sleep, it isn't more than a indicator. Snoring can be caused by the shape of our airway parts, not much we can do about that except get out the knife, something I'm not going to worry about.

I just make sure that I breath. Jim

Thanks for the reassurance, Gerald and Jim!

I think I'll rest easier tonight.

I'm far from an expert but if it were me, I would try bumping up that 7 to an 8 and see what happens. I still snored at 7, and 8, but at 9.5 I the snores dereased dramatically. Added bonus..my AHI went way down too! Over the last 2-3 months at 9.5, although my AHI has stayed the same(0.5 or lower) my snores have become almost non existant.

Offerocker,
Just check one thing quickly. Make sure the APAP isn't set up for split night. Since I'm at the office I haven't got the material to explaini what the setting is, but if the machine is set for split night, it doesn't do its magic for the first 4 hours.

TerryB

A search of split night should provide the info. from RG that explains the setting.

Offerocker/Sadie,

I agree with bdp522. You may want to try bumping up the pressure and see what happens. The techs in the sleep labs work to eliminate snoring when they titrate you. It is my understanding that, ideally, we are not snoring while on XPAP.
