DIY power bank
DIY power bank
We frequently lose power. I am considering purchasing a 12V lithium-ion battery and inverter to power my ResMed AirSense 10. Has anyone else explored this as a workable option? Thank you.

Re: DIY power bank
Why not go for 24V and save the inverter? Two car batteries in series will power that thing for weeks. I keep two generators ready, here in Texas things are run so that we don't share grids with anybody, consequently we get to freeze two years out of four lately. All you're looking for then is the funny power connector... just cut the one on the brick and add Molex or PowerPole splicer plug/jacks.
That said, I have an upstairs computer near my bed that has an APC XS 1300 UPS on it... it will run the machine for several hours, just turn off the beep warning and keep sleeping.

Re: DIY power bank
Those are some interesting options. We just purchased an inverter generator, but it would be nice to simply switch to battery power in case the outage occurs overnight, which it seems is almost always the case. I have tried a UPS in the past, but that was a cheap APC Back-UPS ES 350 and it didn't work. Thanks for your feedback.vandownbytheriver wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:52 pm

Re: DIY power bank
With this cord you can use a 12V battery and your neighbors will thank you.
https://www.amazon.com/airsense-10-powe ... power+cord
I use mine on 12V every night. Never notice power interruptions. When I travel I take the 12V cord too.

That is clever, so much less expensive than any one of these specialized CPAP power banks.
I found this one on Amazon. BUTURE 5000A Car Battery Jump. It even comes with a cigarette lighter adapter.
Thank you!

Re: DIY power bank
One more thought, are you concerned at all about THD when using off the shelf power banks and this type of inverter with medical devices? Thank you

Re: DIY power bank
Depends on what you mean by THD?

Re: DIY power bank
Maybe THD (total harmonic distortion) is the wrong term within this context. I believe a pure sine wave is what is being referred to as preferred for medical equipment.

Re: DIY power bank
Running a generator you may have to worry about that.
I always us DC power, no problem.
