Hello everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem as I did and if so, any suggestions on how to solve it.
I have been using the Phillips Respironics Wisp nasal mask for 10 years (first 6 years with a Resmed Airsense S9, then the last 4 years with the S10). Recently I was looking for mask options that didn't have a headgear and decided to buy the Bleep Eclipse to try.
When I changed from the Wisp to the Eclipse (all the rest remaining the same), I felt hyperventilated. There was too much air coming it, so there was no chance I could fall asleep. Back to the Wisp and everything was normal. I didn't expect this to happen, but it probably makes sense because the air in the Wisp flows into the cushion, generates turbulence and then flows into my nostrils with less speed. For the Eclipse, the hose is aligned almost perfectly with the nostril, so the air comes in with higher speed.
Anybody has any ideas on how to solve this issue?
Thanks!

Re: Hyperventilation when moving from nasal mask to pillow?
The speed at which the air enters the nostrils is not determined by the mask nor the machine. It is determined by the rise and fall of your diaphragm.
The CPAP system does not provide airflow to your body. It only provides air pressure which splints your airway open.
So, I don't know what your problem is. It could be you are overly sensitive to the new mask.It could be your pressure setting is too high. But since it is not too high with your nasal interface, it's unlikely to be too high with the pillows.
Re: Hyperventilation when moving from nasal mask to pillow?
Drawing from personal experience with the Eclipse and the "force" of the air going into the nostrils.
I have noticed a "difference" in what I perceive to be feeling of the air hitting the insides of the nostrils...always the right nostril feel like that air is a lot more forceful than the left nostril.
I think it is either angle of the air (remember it is coming out of a small hole so it will seem for forceful) or maybe vent hole placement at trim of the adhesive causes slight angle difference or the air maybe hits the edge of the adhesive . The strip that is not trimmed and covered up by the other adhesive strip that we trim.
I don't vary my adhesive application at all....this more pressure thing is always the right nostril. I am at least consistent,
It's sensory nerves feeling different something.
I told my brain to ignore it and now I notice it briefly when I first turn the machine on and after that the brain turned those nerves off.
