They laughed at my machine

Post by surf_rower » Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:29 pm

So today I went to a sleep doc for the first time in maybe 8 years, having moved to a new state. When opened my case to display the Respironics "brick," she laughed out loud! Later her assistant came in the examining room to say she couldn't read my SD card (SleepyHead reads it fine), and she also looked at my machine, and she also laughed out loud.
WTF! Don't most of you have ten-year-old bricks?

That's awful that they laughed.
I just put a 15 year old machine in storage. Works fine, I just felt it was time to upgrade before it died on me. Mine didn't even take a card that could be read unless you had the ResMed card reader.

Is that the machine that's been recalled because of the possible health effects of inhaling degrading foam?

Perhaps that's why they are laughing?

No, it's not one of the serial numbers that was recalled. But I'd hate to think they'd laugh at a patient using a harmful machine!

No, it's not one of the serial numbers that was recalled.

Are you absolutely certain it wasn't on the recall list?
My understanding it was all machines after the M series and your 450 is definitely after the M series models.
Both the 50 series and 60 series were included in the recall ....all models.

They had a list of serial numbers and it wasn't on it.
Was there a second recall?

You went by a list of some sort trusting those yahoos to make sure it wasn't on the list?
If you used the automated system...did you make sure that you didn't make a typo?

It was my understanding that ALL 50 series models were part of the recall.
I would be really, really, really surprised if your single model 450 was exempt.

Thanks for asking, I rechecked it and it's on the list now. I checked carefully in 2021 and it wasn't on it. Of course someone could have made a mistake, but I remember being very careful and reading the directions. I still have an email telling my siblings that I was careful.
Or they could have added it since then.
The model numbers don't make any sense. There's nothing on my unit that matches anything they have listed, other than "System One". However, I entered my serial number again just now, and they say it is included.
I'm getting a new machine within four months anyway, but I should try and get something sooner. I'm registered now, so we'll see if they contact me.
Thanks again for caring!

Thanks for checking again. Like I said...all the System One models were included in the recall but perhaps your particular serial number fell through the cracks at the beginning of this whole mess.

To be honest I doubt it is going to hurt you after all this time but then again I am OCD about some things and Philips Respironics handling of this whole mess leaves a lot to be desired. Philips is on my "don't have anything to do with them" list.
I won't be recommending any of their products just out of sheer principle if for no other reason.
And now they got a new problem (overheating) with their new DreamStation models.....makes me rethink all their supposed quality control tests.
I just lost all trust in them.

You could remove the foam but again....we shouldn't have to do that.

When you get your new machine....I don't know that I would want another Philips Respironics product.

Amazing that they expect us to look at the back and see a small 450P and conclude that it means "50 series."
I'm looking at my husband's System One that he barely used. It says 560P on the back. I guess that magically becomes 60 series.
Also their photos of the machines are minuscule, even on my giant monitor.
Maybe I'd be safer using his, as it's barely used, but the other one hasn't bothered me that I know of. Where's the foam?
Maybe my doc has a loaner I can use till they replace this. (Philips probably won't replace it because it's too old.)
Agree, I don't want any more Philips products either. I read the article about the overheating.

Any model number with "50" in it...250, 450, 550, 650, 750, 950 etc makes it a "50 series" System One
and any model number with "60" in it...260, 460, 560, 660, 760, 960 etc makes it a "60" series System One

I guarantee you that the all the 50/60 series machines were included in the recall as well.
The only machines not included...M series and older machines and some of the later DreamStation models. It all depends on manufacturing date.

The foam is the sound/noise reducing foam. I am unsure of exactly where it is at but there is a video here that might explain things.

Should be a place to put in the serial # of your device to register it if it is part of the recall.
Just be sure you are not using the serial # of the humidifier.

Interesting information that would have been nice to hear from Philips at the time.
Also the information that all System One machines were recalled.
We did not hear that, nor does it say that now.

Yes, I was looking at those pics today. But the issue is they did not list ANY numbers or names that are actually imprinted on the machine. NOTHING matched, or matches now, what they put on their website.
Nevertheless in July 2021, I read all their instructions carefully and entered the serial number of my machine or looked at a list of serial numbers that they published. I don't recall which.
Someone made a mistake. Them, or me.
I don't know, and now it's too late. If carcinogens were coming from the machine, I probably got them even before 2021. I had it a long time.
I've had two kinds of cancer since suing the machine, but not in the airway. Ah, my typo says "suing." I'll keep that in mind.
