new CPAP user night 22 .......runny nose HELP!!!
Every morning about 20 minutes after I unplug my mask I start sneezing, nose runs like a faucet and right upper eye lid is very puffy. I am talking EVERY morning all day long. My machine is the AirSense 10 with the humidifier. My pressure is set at 9, hose temp at 72 and humidity at 4. My nasal mask is the AirFit N20. I have used distilled water and tap water, still no difference. I tried humidity at level 1,2,3 and 4.....same. I clean and dry equipment daily. I love not feeling so tired but I ruin those benefits with over the counter meds to try to turn off the runny nose. I'm lost at what to do. Please help me.

Are you allergic to dust? Sounds like me when I started, Except for the eye.
You are breathing filtered air all nite which your body has adapted to then you start breathing air with dust in it - causing your nose and eyes to water.
I take 1 generic Claritin (Loratadine) each morning for the runny nose. You can buy OTC Loratadine at Walmart. I would start there then see your Dr about an allergy test cuz you likely will have other allergies also.

Pretty much the same thing here for me. I don't have the much sneezing or the eye thing but as soon as I remove my mask after waking up, my sinuses go into revolt and refuse to work as I want them to. They clear up after I get my coffee.Barb70 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 7:48 pmEvery morning about 20 minutes after I unplug my mask I start sneezing, nose runs like a faucet and right upper eye lid is very puffy. I'm not allergic to dust but to whatever pollen is around at the time.

Thank you for the replies. As far as I know I'm not allergic to dust . I have been taking loratadine tablets daily for years, no help there. I'll call on Monday the lady that helped me set up my machine. Hopefully she will have some suggestions. If not I will see my family doctor.

I'm wondering for what reason are you taking loratadine? TY

Seasonal allergies like pollen, ragweed, grasses etc. Lived on a farm in Indiana for many years with a wide variety of animals and cut fields of hay to be stored in our barn. In the summer months I had many visits to my doctor or hospital for breathing treatments. Now I live an hours drive from Canada with smoke from their wildfires most days. The allergy pills help with that.

Re: new CPAP user night 22 .......runny nose HELP!!!
I have this exact sniffly problem after switching last month from Tap Pap (fits on teeth) to AirFit P10, nasal pillows only and light headgear. My guess is that the pillows are moving around more than they did with the rigid mouthpiece holding them. You know how you have irritation and sneezing from doing a home Covid test, swabbing the insides of the nose? I believe it's a gentler version of that - the nasal passages are getting mildly inflamed. This is just a guess, but when I put the hose in a different place, it seemed to help, so I'm blaming the hose pulling on the pillows. You might want to just try some different hose positions.Barb70 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 7:48 pmEvery morning about 20 minutes after I unplug my mask I start sneezing, nose runs like a faucet and right upper eye lid is very puffy. Put the mask back on at 19 minutes.

Seriously, I would do a saline nasal rinse very first thing. A neti pot is great. Then, there are lots of commercial products available that make it more convenient. https://www.google.com/search?q=saline+nasal+rinse&rlz
See if that helps. If not post back in this thread for suggestions on the next step.
