I'm really interested in getting a machine with software so that I can monitor my sleep progress, however the vendor that sold me my CPAP machine said that the software isn't that useful because it just tells you when you go to sleep each night an for how long (in other words "big whoop"). I'm hearing on this board that people are getting machines that give them exact data on how many apneas and hypopneas they are having each night. Are there only certain machines that do this, so that my vendor might not be aware of them??
software for an APAP
What machine do you have?
Yes, there are definitely machines that give apneas, etc.
Perhaps your DME isn't aware of what some of these machines can do -- even some doctors are unaware. And that is not excusing their ignorance.
Software Rules.

In Respironics machines, the Pro2 and Auto (from the series before the M Series, sometimes called the "classic series" around here), and the M-Series Pro and the M-Series Auto all give full data.
As you said, full data includes apneas, hypopneas, leak rate, etc.
If your RT thinks all that can be gotten off these machines is compliance data, he is ignorant. Tell him that when he downloads the data from the smart card, when he goes to look at it, choose the "full details" option. It will then give full data information.
I'm not sure off the top of my head which ResMed machines give full data, but there are a few. Your RT should definitely know which ones have that capability - perhaps this is your opportunity to educate him, should you so desire.

Rhynes, you've indicated to us which mask you are using but have given us no clue as to which xPAP machine you are currently using. Look on your machine it should tell you the brand and the model right up top.

My computer says I need to upgrade my brain to be compatible with its new software.

Okay, at this point you know your Remstar Plus doesn't record anything except hours of compliance.
So you need to get your DME to switch out your machine to a Remstar Pro 2, or a Remstar Auto. Hopefully, is you haven't had your machine for long, you can get him to do that. You might have to twist his arm a bit.
Good luck and keep us informed.
