The bullfrog likes a nice warm cappuccino before bed.
Sometimes I have a 4 ounce glass of red wine.
Everybody is different.

My doc also said there was no downside. She suggested 5mg pills. It did nothing, so she said take a couple with a glass of wine. I take 10mg every once in a while and sleep great, although recently I've switched to CBD oil and fall asleep immediately after taking it and strapping in.

Now that I think of it, when I was flying across the Pacific and wanted to sleep, she prescribed Ambien and it didn't work. Then she said take a couple with a couple of glasses of wine.

She also laughed at me when I broke my tailbone snowboarding.

I might need a new doc.

I'm very active and almost never have problems falling asleep. My problem is premature awakening. After about four hours of sleep, the night gets dicey.

The last two nights, I took 1.0 mg of melatonin when I awoke at 3:00 a.m. That worked. I slept until 6:00 a.m. However, I was groggy up until about 11:00 a.m. Tonight, I will try 600 or 400 mcg after four hours of sleep.

if i stay with the dosage i have, it doesn't seem to do any hangover stuff.
Can you expound on that to make it clearer?

Like Julie, I take 1.5 mg about 1 hour before bedtime.

I did read somewhere that some doc's are concerned about the high levels people are taking. It is a hormone, and not much study has been done.

I buy 3 mg. tablets and split them. So far so good.

I also take a 10mg THC gummie about 2 hours before bedtime, and let me tell you, since I started taking them (5 years), I have never slept so sound.

I'm retired, so drug testing isn't an issue.

i can't remember what i said 2 and a half minutes ago, let alone 2 and a half YEARS ago!

i believe, in context, i meant that i kept lowering the dose until i found what was right for me, easing me into sleep but not giving me a hangover.

i think you're trying the same thing, no?

I take 5mg along with my prescription sleeping pill and I still can't sleep more than 5-6 hours.

Been taking 0.3mg (300mcg) melatonin dose at night before bed for years now. Seems to help me to get to sleep, and makes it easier for me to go back to sleep. I did a lot of reading about it on the internet before starting to use it, and most suggested starting with .3mg and going up from there if you needed to. Also mentioned that there were some thoughts that if you took too large of a dose, you would stop your body from producing its own melatonin. On the other hand, they said that your body's production of melatonin starts to decline around age 65. So a lot of thoughts and theories *smile*, but works for me.

Do you have a link to a source? I can no longer find doses that low.

Microdosing melatonin works best for me. If I take 3mg+, I fall asleep fine, but wake up multiple times throughout the night wide awake. I've read that larger doses may inhibit your own production of melatonin. I'm not a doctor so don't quote me on that!

I take 300mcg (micrograms), so 1/10th the usual dosage of 3mg. I was skeptical it was going to work, but surprisingly enough it has been quite effective. Worth a shot if you're having periodic wake up issues with larger doses.
That's interesting.... Thanks!
I do the same, but even less, 150 micrograms. I cut in half a 6-hour extended-release tablet for Life Extension (sold on Amazon). Works well without a hangover. I take it several hours before bed, as it acts more to reset your body clock than to knock you out.

Thank you! This has been very helpful. I ordered as soon as you posted this and have been using it for five nights. I found it on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Life-Extension-M ... r_1_2_sspa

Yes! I've been using LE melatonin - the same dosage as you. One-half of a 300 mcg pill.

How do you get these cut? The pills are very hard and difficult to cut. They crumble for me. I've been keeping the crumbles separated and taking one set each of two successive nights. This works, but it's not elegant. The pills are so hard they seem to have warped the tough blade in my pill cutter. Tonight, I will try with a heavy duty Kobalt box cutter.

I have a special pill cutter - not one you'd find at the Rx... A friend went out of the jewellery (mgf) bus. long, long ago and I ended up with 2 little (4" long) tools - one's like scissors with 2" long pointy ends - great for unblocking the salt sellar - and the other's got 1/2" sharp opposing cutters on the end. They're almost 100 yrs old and still work perfectly!
