It's Crazy!!!!
I really believe it's crazy, this therapy. One thing works for me, but not you. Another works for you, but not me.
That said, I'd like to share something that has recently worked for me:
My AHI has been running anywhere from 2.5 to 4.5 for that past couple of months. Never seemed to get any rest at night. Then, eight nights ago, I turned off my ramp before I put on the mask! The last three nights, I've slept much more peacefully. My AHI has been 1.3, 1.3, 1.0, 1.3, 1.0, 1.5, 1.2, and 0.7. Last night I had 0 apneas. Same thing a few nights ago. Me thinks it's crazy that something like turning off the ramp could make such a change..............but that's the only thing I changed during that time, so what else should I think? Still having problems with aerophagia, though. Now maybe if I'd click my heels and turn around three times.......................

I'm not a Doctor, nor am I associated with the medical profession in any way. Any comments I make are just personal opinions. Take them or leave them. (justa don't gripe at me if ya donna like 'em!)

Yeah......that one works for ME.Now maybe if I'd click my heels and turn around three times.......................
Actually, it doesn't surprise me a bit that not using the ramp decreased your AHI.
Just think.....if you solved ALL of your problems right off the bat, you wouldn't have much to look forward to and this therapy would get pretty boring in a hurry.
Best wishes,
Den

What a shame! No need to test every new mask that comes down the pike.

I'm relatively new to all this, but my analytical brain is wondering why using the ramp would increase your AHI.
2 Thoughts:
1.) When immediately going to full pressure, you notice if your mask is leaking and correct it. Perhaps ramping hides a poor mask fit.
2.) Maybe you fall asleep very quickly and the lower pressure while in ramp mode is contributing to higher AHI's.
I am struggling with AHI's around 8 and would be very happy to get mine down to your level.

Jeff, I'm only in ramp 15 minutes out of 6 to 8 hours................so I don't see how that has anything to do with it. Looking back on my actual data, I've never had an event of any type during ramp.

Does the machine even record data during ramp? I think it's not being recorded. That means you don't know if you have an event during ramp.

Maybe not. I just assumed it did because my hourly indications match the hours I use the machine.

some people are really sensitive to pressure increases. While using Ramp, your Pro2 would increment a pressure increase every 5-minutes by .5cm.
if it was the increasing pressure then you probably wouldn't fare well on a autopap either. either that or there is something wrong in how your machine was set up.

Just an update:
Last night, with 8 hours and 11 minutes under the mask, my AHI was 0.6. No apneas or snores, and only 5 hypopneas. Somthing must be working correctly. Danged if I know what it is, but I'm not changing a thing!

I believe it does. When I was using my ProII, once I got the software, I noticed I almost always had an OA during ramp time. They had set my machine up for 30min ramp, and I would fall asleep rather quickly and have an rather lengthy OSA during the remaining ramp time.bdp522 wrote:Does the machine even record data during ramp? Maybe everything just (finally) "fell into place" with your therapy.....???Sleepy-eyes wrote:Just an update:

I was under the impression that the machines scored events during Ramp time and that was the basis for my earlier comment......more events at lower pressure = higher AHI. Or, as Snoredog mentioned......some of us are just "sensitive" to pressure changes.
In any case, congratulations on your well-deserved success with your therapy!!!
Hang in there! (maybe the "recovery" will come soon, too)
