AirCurve 10 S vs VAuto

Post by Jtg073 » Tue Aug 01, 2023 8:34 am

What benefits does the VAuto have over the 10 S?

An additional mode of operation utilizing the auto adjusting pressure mode.

AirCurve 10 S has 2 modes of operation....fixed cpap mode with single pressure and fixed bilevel mode with 2 pressures that are fixed and can't auto adjust. Fixed inhale and fixed exhale.

AirCurve 10 VAuto has 3 modes of operation.
first 2 are like the AirCurve 10 S machine has....fixed cpap and fixed bilevel
but has an additional 3rd mode which is the auto adjusting bilevel mode.

I always suggest getting the machine model that is going to offer the most choices in available options to be used.

When you say “auto adjusting,” does that mean that instead of just having a fixed IPAP, it will analyze your breathing and deliver the pressure that’s needed at the time (within the range you selected)? So basically you can set a higher pressure support because it won’t be delivering the highest pressure all the time, but only when you need it to keep the airway open?

yes.
Depending on what the machine senses that it needs it can auto adjust as needed within the parameters set.

Example....My OSA is much worse in REM stage sleep and I have been known to need 6 to 8 cm more pressure during REM to keep the airway open.
REM may be about 20% of the entire nights sleep total..
In auto adjusting mode the machine could increase the pressure to deal with the REM stuff and I would have to use about 6 or 8 cm more pressure for 20% of the night...

OR

I could used fixed mode but at 6 or 8 cm MORE ALL night long just to cover the REM 20% stuff.

Guess which mode I prefer? :D

Thanks! I also have an AirCurve ASV, and it sounds like it’s pretty similar to the VAuto. Is there a huge difference between the two? Or can I make the ASV fo the same thing as the VAuto?

Yes....fairly big difference between the 2 machines.
What they are designed to fight and how they fight is a pretty big deal.
ASV will breathe for you or force you to breathe if you need but the regular VAuto cannot force you to breathe.
ASV has different algorithms and various settings for various reasons. ASV is a lot more than a fancied up VAuto.

The AirCurve 10 ASV has a couple of different ASV modes that do their work in different ways. I don't remember if it has a 3rd mode being fixed cpap mode.

And yes...we can "dumb down" the ASV (with some limitations) so that it will work like the VAuto in auto mode works.
It's close...not exact (depends on settings) though. It all depends on what a person is trying to fix.
