Settings Suggestion

Post by Cedric35 » Wed Jul 12, 2023 9:18 am

]I'm an experienced CPAP user, but recently got a new machine and my AHI has gone from being controlled (< 5; my definition ) to over 5 most nights. I'm using the same mask as before so only the machine changed.

I've attached a summary report from OSCAR to show my history. My equipment profile info is up to date.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on settings.

Thanks for a great resource!

John

welcome to the zoo!

please read the following so you know what the forum expects to see in the way of oscar data-

viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html

there's none of the data needed to judge your situation in your image.

good luck!

btw, to those who see only an image icon, click it to open in a new tab. it takes you to imgur.com and shows the image.

You switched from a ResMed machine to a Philips machine. The ResMed algorithm gets higher ratings for effectiveness. If you will follow zonker's instructions for posting charts, members can help you get your Philips machine set up for better results.

That's not actually an acceptable level, unless you're a doctor/insurance company

Something isn't working - nothing's been posted of any use... look again at the Oscar info to see how to do it and look at others' posts to see what's been shown and how.

it's there. i admit it's not exactly smooth, but it's there.

you have to open the image icon in a new tab and it'll load the imgur.com hosted image.

i'd suggest raising your minimum pressure to 9. if this is too uncomfortable to do at one fell swoop, i'd suggest raising it slightly until you get used to it.

see in your pressure chart how you climb up from your min of 7 and then never really get back to 7? looks like your machine wants to get there, but it's a slow process. try it and see what happens.

also, you're going to want to work on those leaks.

others, with more knowledgeable suggestions, will be along soon.

good luck!

I agree with Zonker that you need to raise your minimum. PR machines are by design pretty conservative; they don't raise the pressure much after an event. With a higher minimum, you may be able to head off more obstructive apneas and hypopneas before they have a chance to happen.

Your median pressure is already 9, so you may barely notice the change. But if you do, and it bothers you, as Zonker says you can raise your minimum by increments (1 or even .5).

I wouldn't be surprised if you'd benefit from an even higher minimum, but let's see some data before trying to figure that out.

About your leaks: they're actually OK. PR machines reports include intentional leaks (venting). On the left panel, your data indicate that you didn't have any "large leaks," i.e., leaks your machine couldn't compensate for. Of course, if you have leaks that are waking you up, you do need to deal with those.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll give a minimum of 9 a try.

Definitely better! Settle in with this new setting for maybe 3 or 4 more days, then see what happens if you raise the minimum to 9.5.
