High respiration rate?

Hello,

In the last 5 years since I started to get treated my situation has systematically and steadily got worse.
I just did a sleep study and the lady was telling me that my high respiration was bad.
The way she said it chilled me.

I have an AirSense set to 12 as base, epr at 3.
I have a mandibular advancement device "The Silencer".
I have a Zeus device (https://zeussleep.co.uk).

An ENT told me 'wow that's a long palate'.
Under endoscopy before a septoplasty I've been told that the back of my nose collapses.

I have on order an Alaxo Stent 6 inch.

My eye bags are getting worse I now have (even with low cholesterol) yellow blotches on my eyelids that are drooping over my eyes.
I wake up feeling like my heart is tired or out of breath.
This will kill me. I'm pretty sure about that. Eventually.

Anyone can share surgical options I can research or any advice at all?

What makes you think your high respiratory rate is caused by your nose?
Does it only happen when you sleep?

I wake up feeling like my heart is tired or out of breath.
This will kill me. I'm pretty sure about that. Eventually.

Have you consulted a pulmonologist?
Maybe something else that "will kill you" is the cause of that rapid breathing?
Have you had a pulmonary function test? Oxygen saturation monitored professionally for 24 hours?

I see no signs of obstructed breathing in the graphs you posted only very rapid breathing. Was your sleep study with or without a CPAP?
Can you hide you personal data and upload the sleep study?

I'm not professional, so may be totally ignorant. Can you explain how your rapid breathing is related to the length of your palate? Does the back of your nose collapse on inhalation or on exhalation?

What was her TITLE?
Doctor, nurse, EMT, PA, or technician?
It matters whether or not she knew enough about the subject at hand.
Or was qualified to tell you.

What did your ENT guy suggest? That's what you pay them for.

as they are not qualified or licensed to do so.

If you look at the expiratory waveforms, every sleeping waveform (and perhaps some waking waveforms) has some disturbance, ranging from a tiny blip to total obstruction, where expiratory time is cut off @<1.0 second. The rate is high because he's struggling to find someplace to exhale.

Update...

With an ASV machine, an F1B full face mask from BMC (50$ aliexpress), I have much better sleep than CPAP. I'm looking into getting a barbed pharyngoplasty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4DhudXwQbUsince it looks to be the ticket for people with CCC level 2 (complete concentric collapse) which is (I think) what palatal prolapse is.

I tried pretty much all the masks, my pressure goes up to 20 and so that mask is the best I've found for high pressure.
About the nasal stents like the Alaxo... I have the six inch and unless you don't have a gag reflex forget it... when it passes say around four inches in you start gagging and coughing and there's no getting used to that. No amount of will can void your natural reflexes. You literally have to not have a gag reflex to live with that.

I tried medical glue and tape with the mask and it'll help a little but it'll leak anyway and it's a lot of hassle.

Hoping this helps and that others can contribute what surgeries they've had or looking into.

I have the six inch and unless you don't have a gag reflex forget it... when it passes say around four inches in you start gagging and coughing and there's no getting used to that. No amount of will can void your natural reflexes. You literally have to not have a gag reflex to live with that.

1. You can't assume that everyone else will have the same experience that you had, especially since (some/many/most) don't;

2. We can't assume that you are even using the stents correctly; and

I had some palate problems... felt like I was being slapped from inside my head on exhalation. Very position dependent... supine worst, then on left, then few/no symptoms on right side. Interesting that it affected only one side.

Turned out that EPR was exacerbating the problem... the pressure change during breath transitions caused the flapping. Moving to EPR 2 lessened it... moving to EPR 1 pretty much stopped it. I'm now on EPR 0 and have not had a recurrence.

This is not necessarily for the OP but for others whom this may help... Resmed EPR algorithm has known issues with exhalation support, not sure if this is related.
