Im an oldie but a goodie (need a new machine)

Post by chaznsc » Wed Jun 28, 2023 4:17 pm

So I am a CPAP-er since 2012..... I think LOL. I have had the Resmed S9 all this time and its showing its age. I never even think about it, it just runs. But I have noticed the warning that the machine is beyond its lifespan or something to that effect and I know I need to replace it. I have had great success with the S9 and would probably go to the 11 but not sure if I need to go thru insitance to get it (I know I need an RX, thats not the problem). My insurance covers 80% of DME, but I dont want to get hooked into renting, a maintenance plan, etc etc. I just want the machine and I will replace the consumables using a reseller. I remember back when I got the CPAP machine talking to a DME dealer and it was like talking to a used car salesman, which prompted me to purchase one on my own, outside of insurance. I got lucky with a brand new machine for $500 from an individual.

I guess my question is what to expect after doing a new SS and getting the RX, and is insurance the way to go?

Oh, I love my machine and full face mask, I wont sleep without it. I took to it the very first night.

Sorry for rambling on.......

No one here knows the details of your policy. You need to talk to your insurance company. Insurance companies speak HCPCS language. You need to have the codes ready when you call them - https://www.sleeprestfully.com/HCPCS/

80% of DME sounds like the way to go. But, you need to understand the details.

welcome to the zoo!

should you decide to go without insurance and pay private, see forum member lsat. he often has gently used (and sometimes new) machines for sale. he deals with resmed machines.

good luck!

I got my machine from LSAT, the member Zonker mentioned. Everything went as smoothly as I had hoped.

I would stick with the 10. They are readily available, the parts are easily available, and the price is coming down

what more could you ask for?

afaik everything else in the 11 is the same except the case?

Interesting. We try to tell the distilled-only gang that it is not necessary. (Not even in the Americas).

ResMed's manual for the AS11.
That did NOT answer the question, so I have to think you have NO Clue.

And that you forgot to let PR know they are NOT the same.

Let's read that one more time.

Does anyone have any idea what the holdup is? I heard at one point it was the radio but I doubt that's what it is.
There's no difference between the S9 VPAP Auto and the Aircurve 10 VAuto, they're just a different shape. There's no reason to suspect that the 11 will be anything other than a different shape.

My S9 still works but it's falling apart it's cracked in certain places and one of the knobs doesn't work well but overall I'm still doing its job.
Plastics are easy enough to replace, you could grab any S9 machine, the crappy S9 escape, and swap the case. They're all the same inside.
Perhaps we can get on with helping the OP now?

Or we can talk about using pond water in the AS 11?
What a special treat.

You can take up the rest with PR here...
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=182419&p=1440604&hi ... 7#p1440604

And to think this is what started it all... offering an opinion.

Your money - I mean your call.
To the OP:
There are two types of AS10 APAP machines.
One is the AS10, the other is the AS10 For Her. The latter contains a second, newer APAP algorithm, which some people find helpful, regardless of their gender.
If you get a regular (black) AS10, you will not have the For Her algorithm

The AS11 no longer hast two machine versions. It has both algorithms in one machine.
And how do I know? I read the manual I linked to. The manual shows that in the AS11 you can choose the regular Autoset algorithm, or the Autoset For Her algorithm.
Maybe if she had said this to begin with this wouldn't have gotten blown out of proportion, I know it wouldn't have. Sad to think this was her whole point and that people want to say that your opinion is wrong when you offer your opinion. It's just an opinion, nothing more. And I did say
I would stick with the 10. ... Your money - I mean your call.
Plus OP was using an S9 and the S9 had NO "For Her" options so he wouldn't miss those options, I mean Opinions.

typical stupid bullshit, dragging others into a thread they weren't even involved in, for typical jackass reasons.
I know that this comes as *no* surprise to anybody on this forum, but you are a complete jackass.

There are differences in the 11, it uses a different blower motor, (reportedly the same as the airmini) whereas the S9 and Air10 series use the same blower.

The 11 also has a different (considerably miniaturized flow sensor, compared to the 9 and 10 models). they have a single PCB, whereas the 10 had a separate PCB for the cell modem. The 11 has much smaller FETs driving the smaller motor. That single PCB is considerably smaller too, with much denser, and smaller SMT components.

How do I know? I'm holding the board from an 11 in my hand right now. (which I got after the post you're wanking over.
