saliva glands not secreting during cpap
I'm having issues with excessive dry mouth when using my cpap. I awake with my throat and mouth completely dry. I use a nasal pillow mask with a chin strap to help stop my mouth breathing. My machine is a dreamstation and I fill the humidifier full every night. the other night I laid awake and could not coat my teeth with saliva. I turned off the cpap and within minutes I had ample saliva to satisfy my mouth. It seems to me That the pressure from the cpap is stopping my saliva glands from secreting. I went out and brought mouthwash to help but it did nothing. I was wondering if anyone knew a solution to my problem. My pressure settings are low 5.5 and high 13.5. Could never get a face mask to fit so im stuck with the nasal pillows
Thanks, Tom

The pressure in not stopping your saliva glands from secreting.
The air is pouring out through your opening lips, and dries out the saliva secreted.
This will not happen with a properly fitting full face mask, or if you tape your lips.
Watch this video: https://youtu.be/dGAHEENnatw -- from Lanky Lefty about how to tape and why.
I've been taping for many many years - it works. And drop your humidity when using tape.

Whichever tape you buy - try one out first to see how it feels on your lips and face.
I switched to a more expensive brand than the one recommended in the video, because it was better for my lips, and therefore worth the money for me.
It's very much a case for trial and error as to the brand. But the explanations and demonstration are the same, no matter which brand you use.
I'm a "graduate" of 3M's Micropore - had to use it with lip salve and to remove it with baby oil, and even then, sometime pealed of bits of skin around my lips.
There was nothing better at the time
The CoverAll is much much milder and better. I know because I tried it.
But for me, Medvance Silicone is even better than that - and it can be re-used. That's for me, I'm not saying which is the best for you.
Bottom line: learn how to tape, start searching for the tape that is best for you. And then use it every night.

Re: saliva glands not secreting during cpap
The air flowing through your mouth (whether it flows out through your lips or not) is very drying.
Have you tried techniques to seal off your mouth from the rest of the airway?
Try this: Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth, on the ridge behind your front teeth. Now plug your nose, open you lips and try to breathe in. If you can't get any air, it means you can seal off the mouth by tongue positioning.
The way to learn to do this is to keep the tongue in that position all day unless you are talking or eating. As it becomes habit it may carry over into night time. That will stop the air from going into your mouth in the first place, and solve the issue of your mouth drying out.
It doesn't work for everyone, but it's worth a try.

Take one of the full face masks you have. Find the exact model on youtube. Carefully watch some videos about fitting and adjusting.

rite aid also has generic xylimelts.seem to work just as well and of course at a lower price.
my beef is that they are "mint flavored" and that's not my cup of tea.
xylimelts come mint free.
