Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
Roughly 50% of the AHI is arousal/awake SWJ false positives. Remember we don't try to treat SWJ stuff with more pressure because it won't help. Instead we try to figure out why the SWJ is happening and stop it from that side of things. Now the bulk of both the arousal junk and the asleep real events seem to be isolated to the first half of the night. I don't know why. Your flow rate or breathing was really wonky and some of what I called "maybes" could very well be arousal SWJ stuff. The flow rate or breathing is just plain weird and hard to evaluate with any degree of certainty.
The second half of the night......to die for boring.
Something changed...but I don't know what.
Gives new meaning to the "we don't sleep the same each night" to when I say "when don't even sleep the same from one hour to the next.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
dear diary,
the results of last nights experiment-

experiment consisted of side sleeping with the help of small pillows supporting my arms. my hope was that this would break the aerophagia cycle, which it did.
still, woke up logy. and with a slight backache, which could be attributable to something rather than sleep position. good news is no vestige of headache.
dunno if this is a "win" or not as, of course, one night of data means nothing. there's that damned obstructive cluster again at about the same time.
pugsy? do you want this through sleephq? if so, i'm going to need some guidance. do i have to import ALL the files like i did the first time? or is there a way to just update with the latest info?
i ask because my main machine is a chromebook. in order to ul folders, i have to go over to the windows box, ul, then relog on with chromebook. not the hardest of things but i'd rather avoid it if i can just upload an update.
meanwhile, i'm going to try wearing the bottle in the fanny pack trick tonite. i suspect those events recorded were due to back sleeping.

not now
What little event flagging you have showing...not enough to worry about no matter if they are real or not.
What I do want is for you to learn to halfway figure out for yourself. I want you to do the work.

I know...not what you wanted to hear.
Sorry...I have never used SleepHQ at all so I don't know anything about anything to do with it.
I don't need it anyway.
If someone else wants it they will have to explain it to you.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
Five weeks ago I started using SomniFix in addition to a chinstrap and nasal pillow mask. During the past eight days my average has been 0.10 AHI. About half those days were 0.0, and the other half ranged from 0.1 to 0.3. Needless to say I am elated by these results.
The reason I started using SomniFix is that my previous combination of nasal pillow mask, chinstrap, and XyliMelts was accompanied with too much aerophagia and dry mouth. Replacing Xylimelts with SomniFix seems to be magical.

I don't think so. I think the same thing got said because it was a new account post and he didn't see his first post because I hadn't seen it yet to approve it so he posted same stuff again but in a different thread.
That happens often...sometimes I delete the second and duplicate post when I see it but this time I was busy and just didn't think about it.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
here's the deal. i respect your position. it's certainly not your job to educate me. and i read a long time ago that if you tell me, i'm not learning. i'll just become dependent on you for the answers. and that has got to be as annoying as all get out.
my problem is, it's not easy for me to learn something new. i've known this since i was a kid in first grade. it never got any better. i barely made it through high school. i suspected by grade 9 that i wasn't going to go on to college. and that feeling grew as the years passed.
i put it down now when i tell folk that part of it was not being able to afford it. but mostly, it was fear of failure and of the hard work i'd have to put out in order to make it.
so i decided to swerve college and go directly into the work force. do i regret it? sometimes. but there are more times than not that i don't regret it at all.
will i learn to distinguish swj from real events? maybe if i get to the point where i really want to know.
meanwhile, i plug on.
(hate to tell you how many times i have to correct misspellings.)

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
It took me 2 years of flow rate examination to feel comfortable with the labels and even now I can't always tell and have to say "iffy".
I wasn't expecting you to do a crash course and take a test next week.
BUT we kinda need to know what we are fighting because we need to know how to proceed in the battle.
Just remember that not every flagged event by the machine is necessarily a real asleep event from airway issues.
The machine will respond to those SWJ OAs/hyponeas just like it does when you are asleep.
Given your history....I bet half your AHI is SWJ false positives.

There's no law that says you have to want to know or I guess know bad enough to do a bit of extra brain power work.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
There is a mainstream educational system that does well for most, but that doesn't mean it's the best for everyone. Throughout history, some of the most valuable insights and contributions to general and specific understanding in many fields have come from people with so-called "nonstandard" ways of learning.
I have found that many of my friends who say that tend to learn things more thoroughly than I learn things, even if it seems I may learn things faster than they do. I may get the gist of something quickly and be able to fake it intuitively right away, but then when my "slower-learning" friends "get" something, they often seem to get it on a different, perhaps even a much deeper, level than I do.
So it may take more work, but then it may be that the work pays off more in the long run.
So THERE!
Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
i'll just say you are correct and that my ahi has been much lower than i ever suspected!

i'll back off posting charts for a bit. ahi 0.1 last night. slept well. biceps complaining a bit today. i'm considering some mild weight training to help with that. besides, there is a list of exercises in the latest aarp newsletter for folk over 70.
not quite at 70 yet, but i may as well get into the habit!
thanks for everything, pugsy.
and thanks to ozij and robiesue too!

They're on the coffee table next to the remote.
Thank you, sir. Was on a family-related road trip from NY through Kentucky, Indiana, and Texas.
Glad to see you still fighting the good fight on the road to optimized AHI with the least air-swallowing!

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
No it's not spam. I am an AirCurve 10 ASV user who suffered with much aerophagia, marginal AHI (~5), unacceptably high mask leakage, and dry mouth. When doing some research online, I learned of a product that had good initial results, then seemed to trail off a bit, and for the past couple weeks has generated spectacular results: little aerophagia, superb AHI (<2), acceptable mask leakage numbers, and greatly reduced frequency/severity of dry mouth.
I did not have to experiment with any pressure settings to get this huge change, and I thought anyone being annoyed by or harmed by aerophagia would be interested.
