I hope this is temporary, but I notice some avatars are not being displayed on the index page.
Testing if mine is one of them.

Aha! Firefox shows them--but Chrome does not.
Stupid Chrome.
I am going to get Firefox on this tablet, too.

It's been this way for a while, and given how the hosts have become absentee landlords, I don't see it being resolved in any time soon.

Avatar icons are missing from those who uploaded their pictures to the site a while ago, when images weren't actually stored on the forum server, but stored on a third-party derver.

Individuals can fix it by re-uploading.

I loaded my avatar 13 years ago this July.
I only noticed because my tablet was acting up, and the bullfrog gave me his identical tablet-
but his only has Chrome--and mine has Firefox. (Hope he's fixed mine)
Any how, my avatar is present for every function but the index page.
It always shows in threads. Silly, stupid Chrome!
