Resmed Airsense10 with F20 full face mask
Hi fellow snorers !!
I started using Resmed Airsense 10 (APAP) last year. I couldn't get adjusted to it so stopped using it only to pick it up recently per my physician's suggestion. Currently using Resmed F20 (Silicon cushion)
I have been using it since Feb 23 regularly. My observation is that the mask fit is great before I fall sleep while lying down. In the middle of the night, there is whistling sound from either right or left cheek as if air is trying to escape. Typically pressure at that point is anywhere between 11 to 13 (starts with 5 when I turn on the m/c). I reset the machine at that point & it happens again in sometime.
So I am not sure what's happening that's causing mask to start leaking after 2-3 hours of sleep.
1) Is mask moving as I sometimes tend to move during sleep
2) Is pressure too high for mask to handle - Sleep study recommended a pressure of 7 and machine automatically goes as high as 12-13. Could that be the problem ?
I researched a lot on Resmed's site and I have followed all advice regarding cleaning, washing , trying to stay on the back etc. but nothing is working consistently. Sleep score is usually 90. Lost points are mainly because of the leak. AHI is 1.5, Mask adjustment is typically 1-2 times.
Appreciate your thoughts. Most of the folks I talked / read about had a lot smaller learning curve and they are EXTREMELY happy with the results. I honestly don't see any visible differences but hopefully I don't stop breathing as much as I used to without the CPAP.

When you turn on the machine, your pressure settings show on the screen...Min and Max. What are they?

5-15. CPAP.com told me , that could only be altered by Doctor recommendation.

the bulk of users here change their own pressures.

First of all how to change the pressure limit and what would I switch to.
Secondly, isn't machine ramping it up because it senses that I need it. Isn't it what APAP does to begin with .

Your pressures are not high....I'm guessing that your actual max pressure is below the 15 setting. These masks are designed to go 20 +. #7 LO is a very high leak. With a leak that high, the machine can miss apnea events.

@LSAT. That's correct. Those are the default settings out of the box.
So why do I feel air escaping from the mask at high pressure in the middle of the night. It stops when I stop & start the m/c at 5 cm of H20 pressure again and this repeats in a couple of hours. What is the issue here. Mask fit is all good before I go to bed.
I'd like to get those mask leaks at higher pressure reduced to minimal & get a higher therapy score.
Really struggling with this and looking for help from seasoned users. Thanks.

Are you using the "Mask Fit" setting test your mask? This lets you fit the mask at the maximum pressure.
You should do the fitting lying down, and the toss and turn a bit, to see how the leaks happen, and how to fix them without closing the machine.
An AHI of 0.7 is excellent.

Yes. I do a mask fit before going to sleep and it shows all green - mask fit is good.
AHI is typically between 0.5 to 1.7. I score 20/20 on everything except for the mask leak. That's anywhere between 0 to 15 depending on the particular night.
