I'd take the machine for sure.

Philips is sending me a new Auto CPAP WITHOUT having to send them a prescription!
It looks like Philips designed their Dreamstation 2 specifically for the recall to cut every production cost as low as possible. As long as it works I will be happy to have it for traveling and camping. I have a Resmed Airsense 10 that I am using now. I really like it but it can't be powered directly by a 12v battery. I would have to use an invertor to power the Airsense 10 which is inefficient meaning less cpap time per battery and an extra chunk of gear to carry with me when camping. I have always selected Philips cpaps for their ease of use on battery. I foresee keeping the Airsense for home and using the Dreamstation 2 for traveling and camping. Fancy design and controls don't mean much to me as long as the cpap gets its job done.
In a couple of years the Dreamstation 2 cpap machines are going to be commonly known as the stripped-down recall replacement cpaps.
P.S. I had to go to the Philips recall website and specifically select the auto cpap option that doesn't require a prescription. If I hadn't done so I would have received nothing.

I recall the Dreamstation 2 came out before the recall. I didn't realize the Resmed Airsense 10 cannot be powered directly by 12 volt. I have a backup Dreamstation 1 that I will probably use for my two week stay in a tent. No electricity in my tent, but I can charge up the battery during the day.

I decided to just take the $50 and sent my CPAP machine to Philips for recycling a week or so ago. I already have a Dreamstation 1 and an Airsense 10. How many CPAP machines do I need?

This entire snafu is so horrible--my opinion:
If the case ever gets to court, the lawyers will get 98%,
(which they may have already arranged to split with Philips.)
Your share will barely cover advertising and postage.
MIL passed from defective device--settlement share was miniscule..
About $30 for each child.
$50 just might be the best one can hope for.

Sure you can help someone who is waiting for their insurance and prescription or that needs a backup cpap after they start out. Sell it or give it away. Give someone a good deal.reader2580 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 2:21 pm
Since I already have two machines is there any reason to take another replacement machine from Philips rather than the $50?
I just got rid of two of them 1 to a guy who wanted it for his girl - the other was a very senior gentleman. I still have another waiting for a new home.
IMO - if you take $50 Philips wins.

Philips wins either way.
People tend to stick to the brand they started out with.
Philips knows that, and the recall keeps their machines out there,
gaining life-long customers, due only to people's resistance to change.
