Mouth sticking at night
Mouth sticking at night
Been on cpap for more than 20 yrs. Use nasal pillows since they came out. Last 6 months or so several times at night my mouth sticks together. It wakes me and is scary! I use a humidifier. I don’t mouth breathe. No mask leaks.
I sleep on my left side only. Can’t sleep in right side due to CGM sensor. I’ve slept on my side since I was little. Any ideas?

Your mouth sticks together?
I'm not sure what you mean. How does your mouth stick together? Sticks to what?

My lips stick to each other. My teeth stick to my tongue. It’s weird. I bought a mouthwash for dry mouth but honestly it tastes bad so seldom use it.
Re: Mouth sticking at night
I had an issue with dry mouth as well.
I use two products that help me.
You mentioned a mouth wash, but it tastes bad? I use Biotene, it's effective and tastes great.
I also use XyliMelts. Between the use of these two products, I normally don't have any issues with dry mouth. I do keep a bottle of water in my nightstand, just in case.

If you are darn sure that the dry mouth isn't from mouth breathing then I would suggest looking at other potential causes.
See the above links.
Maybe a chat with your doctor is in order. Might be something else going on that you don't want to inadvertently ignore.

It’s Biotene that I use. You like the taste? I’ll look for those mints. Don’t keep water by bed because when this wakes me up I typically go pee and get water from bathroom sink.
I will look into the links Pugsly sent. Thanks for the help!

You think that Biotene tastes bad? You ever try Listerine? Now THAT tastes bad! Biotene tastes good to me, I'm surprised that you don't like it.

Never cared for any mouthwash. I don’t drink either so maybe it’s that alcohol taste. Last night was fine. It’s not an every night occurrence. Scares me when it happens though.

Re: Mouth sticking at night
A mouthwash is a temporary relief of dry mouth - maybe five minutes.
How do you know your mouth doesn't open for a few minutes? You are asleep. You can't know.
Re: Mouth sticking at night
I think my machine would tell me I had a leak. I remember yrs ago when I had my sleep study that the person who recorded me mentioned that I didn’t mouth breathe. He wanted to put a chin strap on me Pre study but I told him I didn’t need one. I find it odd keeping my mouth open for no reason.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 12:10 pmA mouthwash is a temporary relief of dry mouth - maybe five minutes.

it tells you when you have a large leak. micro leaks can still happen and go unreported.

Re: Mouth sticking at night
Okay but since I’m 99.9999% sure I don’t mouth breathe I’ll assume it’s from diabetes or the thc vape I use before bed. I only take mild opiates in the morning and early afternoon. Dr wanted to put me in them around dinner too but I didn’t want more. I have a Med cannabis card. Two tokes and I’m good for the night as far as pain goes. I forgot it could be cotton mouth. I’ll have to note if I use an edible or vape when it happens.

The CGM sensor works fine when placed on the INSIDE of the upper arm,
--where I have been putting mine for three years+.
They only want it on the outside to force us to ADVERTISE for them
--and get it knocked off on doorways and furniture.
And often dislodges the probe, giving bad/no data.
My endocrinologist even suggested other locations, but I'm too fluffy there.
They also hate it when you tape it down, but I use a third of a strip of KT tape.

I’ve only had one fall off and it was my fault. I don’t use tape. I do vary from front to back of arm. Readings are always the same. I’ve been lucky because I’ve never had one fail or give bad readings. I have more than enough one touch strips thanks to my brother who gives me his extras. I sleep on my left side because I’ve always had to face the door and my bad is set up that way. I doubt I could change after almost 40 years in this house. I really suspect it’s vaping that causes it. The nights I don’t get sticky mouth probably are edible nights. I prefer edibles but sometimes I forget to do one and they can take 45 minutes or more to work. Vape is close to two minutes.
Re: Mouth sticking at night
Any recent changes in medication, either the med or the dosage? A number of medications cause dry mouth. BTW, Xylamelts come in two flavors. There are other brands, but I only know of Xylamelts having the adhesive back that sticks to your cheek, gum, or roof of mouth. This is important so you do not swallow/choke on the tablet in your sleep. The adhesive itself melts away once the tab is gone. One lasts me about 4 hours.
Good luck!
Good luck!
