When it's heated and vapor evaporates off of the water in your humidifier...

Who said it's heated? If it's not heated, how much of a difference does that make?

Water will evaporate at room temperature, but slowly.
Most of us have HEATED humidifiers, so more vapor is available.
Higher humidity in the tubing, which most of us need.
Distilled water is boiled, and then recaptured via condensation,
removing minerals and organics prior to use.

If the machine in your signature, Luba II, is accurate then yes you do have a heated humidifier. And there is a heating element under the water tank.
