OT: Ride across The River Styx

Post by chunkyfrog » Sat Dec 31, 2022 6:16 pm

This is weird, but when celebrities pass away at about the same time,
I imagine them together in a small boat, journeying to the other side.
This week, it's Barbara Walters, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and Pele.
Love to hear what they would be saying to one another.
But not enough to ride along, though.

I think you think a little like Steve Allen. Maybe you can have a similar show but on a boat?

I thought of that today - the 3 of them, and all so different... I'm glad I don't believe in omens!

Not Wolf Hall, of course, but good entertaining stuff.

It's what Chunkyfrog's comments immediately brought to my warped mind.

I'm glad I'm not alone in how I think . . .
I have a kid named Steve. Tonight he's driving folks who should not.
Probably in drag.

ok except I don’t think a pope will ever cross over a river styx.

maybe a cruise ship somewhere

Well, unique creative personalities often naturally bring to mind other unique creative personalities.

Well, the Pope--not that way.
Like a stairway to Heaven--but an escalator, of course.
A-listers don't have to climb.

Thanks

Not a devout Catholic here but just enough to be superstitious about putting the Pope on the Styx.

I like the notion of an escalator.

Sleeper compartments on long train rides is another location for discussion.
Think the Orient Express--or the electric cross country train in Ukraine.
In July of 1992, seven of us rode from Kiev to Lviv in a sleeper car.
Room for eight people, so we were "housed" with an college economics professor.
His science had just made a huge change--due to the collapse of the USSR.
He was adjusting to new things--with so much hope
and joy for freedom from his oppressors.

Me too. A unique talent. True gentleman.

i had the pleasure to see him live here locally in washington state. and he did his schtick where he took questions from the audience. as he engaged one, he asked where she was from. she replied "puyallup". this, of course caused a bit of consternation for mr. allen and a few chuckles from the audience. so he played it for all it was worth, deliberately mispronouncing until he got it right. he ended after that by saying "it still doesn't sound right.".

he is definitely missed by me. another large influence on my own sense of humor.
