Recording data on "new to me" Resmed airsense 10

Post by stratapastor » Sat Dec 10, 2022 6:44 pm

I purchased a machine from a friend who ended up deciding not to treat her slight apnea. I am a pilot and must have records of my usage. I'm going to get an SD card in the morning but is there anything I need to do in order to make sure that the machine isn't sending information to her former physician? Can I call a provider in my area and have the information wirelessly send to them or am I better off sticking with a card?

First of all you want to erase all her past data that is stored on the machine so it doesn't get mixed in with your data.

How long has it been since she actually used the machine? After a period of time with MyAir or AirView not getting any data they no longer will look for it so it may not matter but you can always put the machine in airplane mode and it simply won't transmit the data.
The only way for you to fix it so the data that gets transmitted can be attributed to you and not her is to have the original DME unregister the machine to her and re-register it to you and that DME may not want to do that because there's nothing in it for them.

I would just used the SD card and store the data on it. I don't know who you have to prove compliance to but your current DME should be able to generate a suitable usage report from the SD card data that will satisfy your employer and FAA requirements.
You could use OSCAR as well but they may not be aware of OSCAR.
DMEs can use ResScan if they would just take the time to do the work.
You could also use ResScan (but it is Windows only software and a pain in the butt to install and deal with.
If you want to use ResScan you can find it over on the apneaboard forum if you register and log in to see the hidden files that are for members only.

FAA requires the "official" papework from a provider. I have DME who will read the card and sell me the occasional "emergency item" so i should be good to go. I did clear her data on the machine and i'll put it in airplane mode and just leave it there. I have my SD card from my S9 that's getting retired tonight but i'm afraid of losing that compliance data so i'll just go get a new card in the morning. I'm not sure if the machine will transfer from onboard mem when i put a new card in but the FAA won't ground me over 1 night.

You won't lose tonight's data even without having a SD card in the machine.
You will lose the detailed graphs though but actual usage is part of the summary data that the machine does store on the machine itself and when you insert the SD card into the machine it will write that summary data to the SD card.
So you still get credit for using the machine...you just won't have any detailed graphs from tonight until the SD card gets inserted.

So....nothing is lost that is critical to the FAA compliance stuff....it's still there.

Does the display show signal strength bars? If it shows a circle with a line through it instead of the bars, it could be an older S10 with an obsolete 3G modem that is no longer sending data anywhere.
