The Worst Day of the Year!!

Post by Rubicon » Fri Nov 04, 2022 3:54 am

The end of Daylight Savings Time, the return of Standard Time, "Fall Back", whatever you call it...

...for the ASPSers, without a doubt, the worst day (night) bar none.

Course, if you're a free-wheeling (a specific sleep practice) retiree, guess it really doesn't make a difference.

Or maybe for men and women of a certain age, abnormality is just normal?
True advanced sleep-phase syndrome (ASPS) is probably quite rare. However, an age-related phase advance is common in elderly patients because they tend to go to sleep early and get up early.--https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/ ... verview#a5

that's funny because the older people in my family tend to stay up late in hopes they'll be tired enough to sleep past 4 a.m.

Rare??

In a survey of my immediate area, the incidence is 50%!!

Some freewheeling retirees, like me, don't even know what day it is most times. Every day is Saturday, right?

Professionals in the sleep field assert that year round Standard time
would be less disruptive of natural sleep cycles, and healthier for all.
Politicians like DST, because that is favored by the businesses that bribe them.

Not at my retired house. Saturday and Sunday we stay home and leave the restaurants, bars, theaters, coffee shops, lakes, beaches, parks, etc. to the working people. When we go out, it's Monday to Friday. Lately, we've narrowed the hiking trails down to Monday through Thursday. Too many people take Friday off!

Fall back one-half hour and leave it there forever. A compromise.

I hate the time change, especially the spring.

When your doctors think that retirees are all early birds, it can be an actual burden.
Less than 7 hours of sleep makes me feel like a punching bag.

my opinion is that this "early bird" bull pucky is from restaurant establishments that want us in at non-peak hours so we don't slow down service for the young set.

as heinlein said, the early bird just goes to show the worm shoulda stayed in bed.

OTOH, if you're additionally a habitually "short sleeper", it's like, why go to bed at all?

A tiny bit of cyclobenzaprine usually gives me a 5th sleep cycle. I think I'll do that to try to ease the transition.

IMO the strategy has to keep in mind how you're going to sleep on Sunday night...

I plan to turn the clock AROUND so I can't see it--then stay in bed until rested.

I am not a big fan of mornings. Not quite retired yet but thankfully I don't have to be to work till 10:00. That lets me get up at the somewhat civilized hour of 7:00 and spend an hour or so staring at my phone drinking my caffeine. Had to get up at 6 am and get moving on Friday because hubby had a back epidural. That sucked ! I was cranky all day.

For most of my life I've been on mountain standard time year round with the exception of the 15 years I spent in cold country. Dst is the worst. I hated it !

Was a good night to get an extra hour so I could stay up to be happy for Dusty.
