severe dry mouth, sinus irritation, nightmares

Post by PTSDNewbie » Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:03 am

HELP.. After my 1st time trying to use my Resmed S11, my sinuses became irritated (had to take a benedryl) my mouth/throat was so dry I couldn't swallow. I had to remove the CPAP and the rest of the night I had nightmares (possibly related to having PTSD) but enhanced.
Is this COMMON? I have MILD sleep apena. Have to nap during the day at least 2 times, about 20 minutes at a time to REFRESH plus brain FOG. The morning after my MENIERE'S disease was activated also. This is the 1st time I have EVER awaken to deal with symptoms of MENIERE'S. (My meniere's is stage 4).

Do I just give up or risk MORE nightmares and dry mouth and MENIERE'S symptoms?

Open to suggestions.... Plz... TY

I don't have any advice. I just want to express my empathy. My grandfather had Meniere's and I can't even imagine trying to use a therapy that triggers it.

Hi, are you using the humidifier? On what setting (too high and you risk congestion)? What about a room/floor humidifier?

Can you please say which model of what machine you have and at what pressure settings? And what mask?

Also.....Too low of a humidity setting on cpap can also make nasal congestion worse.
Google "cpap rhinitis".

What humidity setting are you using?
Using a heated hose or not?

my mouth/throat was so dry I couldn't swallow.
And such a terribly dry mouth and throat can come from mouth-leak: your mouth opens, and pressurized air rushes out of it, drying out all the tissues... very unpleasant.
So, as you see, we really need to know much more about your equipment (machine and mask) and what it reports is happening when you're using it.

I was intrigued by your question concerning Meniere's, and I found this interesting study on line:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4582051/

If you can adapt to CPAP, you may actually find that you see improvement in the Meniere's. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

My mask is the AirFit F30i The machine is RESMED S 11. The humidity is on auto with a heated tube. The pressure starts at 5 and is on Auto.

when you get the chance, please go to the equipment profile and fill it out. that way it will appear at the bottom of each of your posts, as mine does below.

good luck!

Xlimelts work wonderfully for super dry mouth. They are little tablets that stick onto your gums and slowly dissolve.. I use one a night, you might need two. Amazon sells them.
