ComfortGel Mask with Headgear

Post by cchewie78 » Thu Jan 25, 2007 3:35 pm

Is there any way to reduce the noise made by the exhaust holes in this mask?

Also what would happen if you put some of the Vicks vapers stuff in with you water? Will it work like a vicks vaporizers?

keep in mind, that you are breathing what every you put in that humidifier chamber. I wouldn't recommend using anything except distilled water and white vinegar. A good rule of thumb.....if your breathing it, it will coat your lungs.

also don't mess with the exhale ports. Are the white tabs covering the oxygen input valves closed?? If they aren't close them to reduce the noise level.

Hi Chewie,

If you go to the top of page and click on SEARCH. Enter Vicks AND water. You will get several links to previous posts that disuss this. Bottom line sounds like NOT to add anything to the water in humidifier as it can damage it. As far as the mask goes, I don't find it noisy when I use it so I can't help there.

Good luck!

mary

Nothing in the HH but distilled water Only. Yes, the vent design could be better, but the mask fits and works the best for me that Ive tried, out of five. Don't mess with the vents. But they do need some sort of defuser sleeve. Jim

Several years ago Respironics had quality control issues with the Diffusion Elbow they use on their masks. Specifically, the location of the small pieces of plastic over the port was not being controlled. I have had Respironics' masks that are absolutely silent, one that whistled, and everything in between. If the exhaust is loud, complain to the person you got the mask from and ask for a replacement elbow. I complained to the President of Respironics and he eventually had 5 elbows sent to me.

My comfort gel (which I hate, so grain of salt notice here) has an exhaust port that's a little half circle deal on the elbow to the hose. If there are other holes open, then most likely they shouldn't be. It's not a very noisy mask to me, and by the sound of it, you got one meant for a sleep lab to put supplemental O2 in.

Try putting it on, and covering those noisy holes with your fingers. If air is coming out at the elbow, then those holes shouldn't be open.

Or do what Snoredog says and get a Soyala. I'd use my Soyala over a comfort gel any day.
