Back pain and achy feelings while on Cpap

I have been on a cpap for about 5 months now. In month 4, I started experiencing back pain and some achy feelings in my ribs. I have tested a couple different devices to make me sleep on my side. Both had little to no effect on my pain. Some days the pain is in my upper back some days in my lower back, some days the pain is a 10 other days a 5. I can sleep for about 5 hours before the pain wakes me. Anyone else having these same issues? Any advice?
My current situation is that my DR wants me to try a device that I wear and it gives me a shock to have me change sleeping positions without waking me throughout the night.

Please speak with your primary care provider and specifically tell them you have pain that wakes you up at night. This can be a sign of something more serious.

It could also be nothing.

It could also be your bed. I was able to determine my old bed was crap when I went away for a weekend and felt great, until I came home to sleep and again felt like crap.

You are sleeping better and deeper with cpap. This means you move around less and it makes other aches and pains far more noticeable. Stay far away from that expensive device that shocks you. I would get a second opinion from someone not affiliated with your first doctor.

Has your doctor done ANY assessment to rule out possible causes for the pain, or is it just an assumption that you aren't changing positions frequently?
Because there are many reasons for such pain, if your doctor hasn't done this assessment you need another doctor.

I was having a lot of hip pain after starting CPAP because I would sleep so deeply in one position. A memory foam mattress topper has helped a lot. Physical therapy to analyze your sleeping position and recommend mattress and positioning devices might be a better suggestion than an electric device, too.

They are focusing on not moving around as much being the issue. I have an appointment with a back pain specialist to look further into the issue. I have changed beds, now sleeping on a purple bed which has not helped. Found that when I was getting adjusted by the chiropractor several times per week, the pain was less than when we scaled back to 1 time a week or every other week.

I'm so glad you'll be seeing a back pain specialist. Be sure to mention that you do better when you have more frequent chiropractic adjustments. That will be one data point for the specialist to consider. Ask the chiropractor to describe what adjustments are being performed so you can tell the specialist. And he or she will be able to view your xrays, right?

Something to think about in advance of the appointment with the specialist: what are the kinds of activity you perform during the day? Lots of sitting in front of a computer? In what kind of chair? Lots of manual labor? Need to bend over a lot? --- Stuff like that would be more information that might help the specialist figure things out.

My experience with chiropractors is to get you hooked on frequent "adjustments"
that fix nothing, but enrich the "provider".

Respectfully, I find quite the opposite to be true.

I love my chiropractor and it has greatly enriched my life and health. Especially trying to sleep with my head in an extension position in order to lessen apneas during sleep.

My husband was sent to one many years ago; and we were subjected to
some of the highest pressure sales tactics imaginable.
It was obvious their intent was frequent "adjustments" for every family member,

Dear Frog, I prefaced my comment with "respectfully". Not...."the likes of you." I am unsure why you would direct such hostility towards me for simply stating my own opinion, and since I don't believe I have ever even contradicted you on a single post. I have a different experience than you and a different opinion, thats all.

That said, I have a cardiologist I do not like. I will be finding another one. I don't need to disparage an entire profession. Characterizing an entire profession such as you have done is completely unfair given good and bad in all professions. Sounds like your husband didn't get one of the good ones. Another specific consideration is that with any body work like going to the gym, one and done is not necessarily the solution. I expressed my opinions based on my experience with TMJ and the fact that my job involves me looking down a lot, so it wreaks havoc on my upper neck. Therefore, I love my chiropractor and I am happy to benefit from regular spinal manipulation because I don't walk out of the office and mummify myself-rather, I use my body daily. Like diet and exercise I see it as a lifestyle choice. Now I can raise my head without pain when laying down with my mask on.

If the poster is getting help with their pain and can sleep thanks to their chiropractor, that is between them and their doctors.

And if you decide that "the likes of me" are so unpleasant I hope you will consider muting me. The trouble with a chiropractor is they relieve the pain but they don't fix it, it will come back. If you go to a Ortho or a Nero surgeon if it's your back, they will fix the problem and you won't have to go back to the chiropractor .
