I was wondering too if that might have been Brads problem
LOL I got lots of problems!
Thank you for suggesting that. A very valid point based on the info I have shared in the past.
Since you wrote that, I have been paying attention when I wake up and see if the machine happens to be off. So far, it does not appear to be shutting down. I think I have been able to confirm that with the oscar data as well. As soon as I realize I am awake, I make sure the machine is still on by feeling the air coming out of the front vent, being aware of my breath and even touching the menu screen to see what the pressure is currently at and I take a screenshot on my phone to document the time so I can see on the oscar report if there was a machine shut down at or before that time. It has only been 2 nights, but so far I am not finding the machine to be automatically shutting down.
It's just me and my brain and a quirk while trying to adjust to all of this.
I dont know if you get up and use the bathroom in the middle of the night, or leave the bed for any reason, but wonder if you turn the machine off. I do, and disconnect the mask. Helps me maintain a good snug fit. Wondering if you do the same or if you take it off and then fiddle to get it back on.

Sometimes I do take it off when I hit the loo, but because I am not on the main hose it is easy to put my hand on the hose and blow out to test my seal. I can't do that once I am hooked back up on the main hose from the machine.

I have used the auto start feature for the last two years. I really like it I can get into bed, get situated where I want, hook the hose to the mask and exhale. The machine stats right up. Normally, I turn the machine off manually when I get up. My wife does the same thing with her machine.
Me too. I attach the hose to the machine and lay the other end on a side of my pillow. Then I put on my mask, settle down in bed, and connect the hose to the mask. Even with my FFM, the machine only takes two full breaths to start up. As far as turning the machine off, I like to press the On/Off button before I uncouple the hose from the mask. If I have to make a restroom trip, I always turn the machine off manually and then disconnect the hose from the mask.

My night time bathroom schedule is random. Most nights, probably 90% of the time I get up once about 4:00. Other nights it is 2 or 3 times. Just really depends and to be honest, I really don't keep track. I can go back to sleep instantly after getting up.

My problem still, is that I am unconsciously taking my mask off at night and not realizing it and I can't figure it out. On the few occasions I have had it on long enough to have to get out of bed, I do completely take my mask off. ( I wait the 4 or 5 seconds for the machine to auto stop) I have not found any issues putting it back on or having adjustment problems.

Interesting I thought you had some leakage issues. I thought maybe taking it off when you got out of bed was the problem. I usually leave mine on my face and just disconnect the hose.

If you’re falling immediately back to sleep Maybe that choking feeling you are getting is because it goes back and ramps up from whatever low level it was set at before? I can’t imagine falling asleep in five minutes that I have it on 4 cm grandson. Period I don’t know if yours is set for longer than that. But maybe that’s why you feel like you can’t breathe when you put the mask on?

Until this week I'd been using a very old RemStar CPAP machine that was quite noisy. It had auto-on/auto-stop and I like the convenience a lot.

My new AirSense 10 has confused me a bit about where the proper controls are for auto-on/off, so the first night was bad. The User Guide that came with the unit listed some important features that could only be set by the *care provider. So I found the PDF file of the ResMed AirSense 10 Clinical Guide online. Page 14 had instructions for opening the Clinical Menu on the unit. That has revealed all of the settings I need to control the options I want. Last night was great - smiley faces all around on the screen!
I'm old-school and have never needed medical intervention to control my apnea, as long as I can find the proper manuals ;-)

The Airsense has two different levels of user mode that is exposed to the patient.

In Clinical mode, setting Essentials to:
  • On - Will expose very little to the patient
  • Plus - Will expose a lot more control to the patient. Including:
    • More information and control of settings
    • About menu choice
    • EPR
    • Humidity
    • SmartStart
    • Mask type
      ...
On the Air11 this setting has been renamed to Patient View and can be set to Simple or Advanced.

Some overbearing, controlling DMEs and Drs think were idiots and won't even give us access to all of the user menus.

Agree with the diagnosis.

But let's keep in mind that sometime one may want to keep even those very basic settings hidden from the fingers of curious children, demented people or those who are otherwise mentally challenged and will not understand a "do not touch this" instruction.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Good morning-
I am going to take this back over to my thread. I don't want to get away from the autostart topic.

Thank you Dog Slobber - I found the Plus feature!
