As to why ResMed would even use or have a slot in this machine makes no sense to me at all. I mean, why have an SD card in the first place if it doesn't collect any information for the user to use?
It does record hours of use and ResMed puts out a software that can be used to see the hours of use. OSCAR can't work with it but the ResMed software can.
Hours of use can be needed by some people to prove they are using the machine....like people who just get a new cpap and insurance wants to know if they are using it as directed before paying for it.
Or maybe an over the road truck driver who has to prove that the machine is being used as it is supposed to be used per DOT requirements.
The reason that DMEs dispense this model machine....it's the cheapest for them wholesale and since insurance pays by HCPCS billing code and all cpap/apap machines use the same code and pay the same amount no matter if full data or compliance usage data only....they make more money. Manufacturers continue to make this model machine because DMEs request it....again because of the bottom line profit margin.
Example....if you were a DME only interested in your profit margin what would you dispense??
The Escape model that might cost you 200 bucks wholesale or the full data model which might cost you 400 bucks wholesale and insurance pays you 800 bucks no matter which model????
I don't know what the wholesale cost it or how much insurance pays but you get the idea here.
Machine manufacturers do NOT think of the end user....us the patients...as their actual customers.
Instead they think of DMEs and doctors as their customers and who they bend over backwards to please. It sure isn't us.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.
