Software help!!
Software help!!
I just got the Encore Pro software, and created a new patient, and proceeded to download the information from the card. The information appears to have been properly downloaded into the database, but now the card just beeps when I put it back in the machine, and subsequent attempts to read the card fail. When I "preview" the card, I see it, but no data on it; did it somehow get erased?
I want to restore the card to where it was prior to reading the data. HELP!

The machine should beep when you put the card in.
By default, when you download data from your smart card, Encore deletes the data. In order to prevent this, you need to change the setting.

If you didn't change this setting before downloading from your card, then there is no way to restore the data that was deleted.rested gal wrote:If you have simply installed Encore Pro and are doing downloads without changing that setting, then the data on the card WILL automatically be erased every time you do a download. And you won't be asked. That has to be changed in your computer. It can't be changed from a page in the Encore program itself.
Here's how to change the setting so it will ask you each time, the way SelfSeeker described:
In your computer, go to:
C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro\Utilities
In that Utilities folder, you'll see two files called:
"Don't erase data after download.reg"
and
"Erase data after download.reg"
Doubleclick the little icon in front of the file called:
"Don't erase data after download.reg"
A "Registry Editor" window will pop up, asking you:
"Are you sure you want to add the information (etc.) to the registry?" Click "Yes".
From then on when you do a download, it will be like SelfSeeker described. You'll be asked if you want to delete the data. Tell it not to. Then the data will all be there on the card when the DME downloads it. As SelfSeeker said, there will be no indication of any kind that you've been downloading data and looking at your data all along.
Did you put the card back in the machine the same direction?
It can only go in ONE way.

I think I had the same problem the first time I removed the card from my M-Series.
You may have the card up-side-down. The Blue face of the card should be along the right side of the machine. Obviously the end with the contacts goes in first leaving the end with the hole sticking out.
The "X" in the middle of the card is part of the icon. (Stupid, I know) but the X is shown even when the card is good. However it shouldn't flash or continuously beep.

Yeah, but I don't have an M Series and didn't have the foggiest about the cardholder in that machine. However, I just looked at the page from CPAP.COM and it looks like the Blue/Gold side of the card is facing to the outside of the machine.Craig-Tx wrote:Blast! You beat me, Den.

I had a similar problem when I first set mine up. It successfully read the data but returned an error. Subsequent attempts to read or write data data to the card would also error although I think erase might have completed. I had the reader plugged into a powered USB hub. Others here had reported problems with hubs so moving the reader to a USB port on the PC solved the problem.

I seem to have gotten rid of the error by using the "Smartcard Utilities", "Setup" task in Encore Pro, confirming that I will erase all data(!), and the unit now seems happy with the card again, which I assume has now been purged of all of the data I extracted from it
I plugged it in directly to the PC versus the docking unit (which could have some sort of USB hub in it), just to make sure.
Thanks for the pointers to the configuration registry edit files.

Re: Software help!!
take the card back to the computer and from the EncorePro Card Utilities run the Setup on the Card, this will erase the card and set it up for use in the machine. You cannot move a card from a Classic to a M series without erasing it first. When you insert the card in a machine it writes some data to the card. Erase the card is should be fine.billm wrote:I just got the Encore Pro software, and created a new patient, and proceeded to download the information from the card.
