Mask shifting in bed

Post by Harryno » Sat Jul 30, 2022 3:33 pm

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. I posted recently about not being able to sleep with the mask. I have broken down the problem into separate issues; I realize it's not just not being comfortable with the mask on my nose and face that is the issue but that lying in bed as opposed to practicing in my armchair, the mask shifts so it leaks, straps press into the side of my face etc. Any suggestions how to deal with this?
After repeatedly fiddling with the mask in bed I'm wide awake

In addition to a different pillow (I too use a CPAP pillow):

Do the mask fitting when you're in bed, lying down. Test in your favorite sleep position. See what you can do to improve things when you're turning.

Do all that when you're as alert as you can be not when you're trying to fall asleep.

Getting used to the feel of the mask on your face when you're in an armchair is a great idea from the sensory aspect.

Fitting your mask for use is something else and has to be done when you're lying down. Do not overtighten.

Consider one of the CPAP hose guides. In 17 years of CPAP use, a hose guide was crucial for me for some of the masks I used, unnecessary for others.

For the straps pressing into your cheeks, there are soft/padded covers you can get for them. One source for them is padacheek, which has been mentioned here before. There are also Etsy sellers who make such things, though I'm not sure what search keywords would be most helpful.
