I found a gently used AS10 Autoset. My ins will cover 70%.
Are you reading this in the schedule of benefits? Or did you actually talk to the insurance company to see if this is an approved supplier and which documents you need to file the claim?

i didn't know insurance would cover a second hand machine.

thanks for letting us know.
It's going to depend on the insurance company and whether or not they maybe made a special exception for a used machine from some place like secondwind.....entirely possible that due to the shortage of machines they decided to be more helpful in this situation.
No way to know for sure but it sure isn't common for insurance companies to go out of network and/or cover expenses for used machines. Never hurts to try or ask though. If we don't ask the answer is always "no".

Or maybe someone actually put a pencil to it and figured out that covering a used machine at 70% of the cost ends up being less for them to pay then their in network contract prices for new machines.

Insurance companies always have the ability to bend the rules IF they wanted to....just most of the time they don't want to because it probably involves a bit of work on their part.

I am running into a similar situation with the Bleep and having to go out of network to get it and having my insurance cover out of network obtained products.

also, too...they may have looked at the less than 61 hours on it. but you bring up a valid point. one should at least ask the insurance folk if they would cover it. they can't say more than no.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Boy oh boy it's tough out there. I called 3-4 places that didn't have machines and had waiting lists. I finally went to Secondwind. I found a gently used AS10 Autoset. My ins will cover 70%.
I hope I made the right move. They said the machine has less than 61 hours on it, which is basically new.
oh! that's good news. i didn't know insurance would cover a second hand machine.

thanks for letting us know.
Nor I, until just now!

I'm more than fortunate to have a cadillac insurance company (in most respects anyway)
I indeed did phone and ask. They told me fine. A)It's refurbished, B) It's out of network.
The cost was less a factor than availability. I phoned Resmed, who told me that Phillips recall, and people with covid have stressed the availability of machines.
I thought it wise to grab this one now.
We'll see how it goes.

BTW if you have deep pockets, Secondwind said they have the AS10 Autoset, new -available now. I suspect, because they don't take insurance of any kind, folks aren't so flush to that they're willing to pay that kind of money.

I am very happy for you that you were able to get your insurance company on board to help you out in paying for the machine.
Insurance companies can make exceptions if they want to. It's just sometimes a matter of getting them to want to.
Sounds like your insurance is one of the "good uns" as we used to say about others who actually got behind the patients instead of fighting against the patient's needs.

Good job on doing the extra work needed to get yourself a machine sooner than later.

I predict you will be very happy with the machine. I have always bought "used" machines in the past and I consider anything less than 100 hours as essentially being brand new anyway.

It's $849 - https://www.secondwindcpap.com/product/ ... oset-cpap/

If someone wants the heated hose, add $40.

Thanks Pugsy. We live in interesting times. There seems to be a shortage of things, everywhere, for many reasons. My S9 may go on for an indeterminate amount of time; or not. I didn't want to second guess myself and find myself without a machine at all.

Don't wait for your S9 to stop. Start using your AS10 now, and keep your S9 as backup.
I used my S9 happily for years. My AS10 had a blower problem within the 2 year warranty time -- I used the trusty S9 while it was being fixed.

Indeed! As soon as I received it. I hooked it up. It is a marvel. Is it the autoset that makes it so wonderful? I sleep good in any case, but the AS10 seems even better than my s9.
I'm so glad I got it. Worth every penny!

You never said whether your S9 was an AutoSet?? The algorithms of the S9 AutoSet and AS10 AutoSet are identical.

How do your settings compare with the S9 and AS10?

I'll have to check.
